Zen was designed for 14nm LPP so there is no chance it was "tested" on 28nm or any other node but 14nm LPP, unless they committed to the other node. Moving a design to different manufacturing process it was originally designed for will cost millions.
It was theoretical.
Despite what these people say, smaller node doesnt increase IPC.
Smaller node increase efficiency, which let them increase clocks while keeping the same power envelope. In total you have better IPC and top clocks affecting the total performance. But nobody here knows what power envelope AMD are aiming for so +40% IPC are the only known metric we have heard about.
Everything else is guesswork

It is a common thing to do, but definitely not in the financial situation AMD is and has been in.
They would have most likely used 14nm LPE which has been available for a while for a test mule, rather than anything else. I think the first Zen silicon starts to tape-out soon, since both 14nm LPP and 16FF+ are available.

Why feel bad for them? It is their own fault they are in the position they are in. Terrible management, terrible decisions, terrible communication.

I think the fight would stop if people associated to the person rather than the company. That way all can direct their anger and rage to those responsible. I know, was thinking bout it in the shower tongue.gif

Unfortunately most of the people responsible no longer work there.

Of course they still do.

AMD, very recently, has made several statements that were bold face lies.

"Overclockers dream"

That statement damaged their image for so many people when Fury came out and it is really an overclockers dud. Let's not even get going about Roy.

Yes, because that statement is on the same level as Bulldozer. Sometimes I forget I'm talking to Postal.

Fury X flat out sucks with overclocking.
AMD boasted it to be amazing.

How is that not bad for their reputation? Anyone should think 3-4 times now before believing their pre launch claims for any product.
They should have kept their mouths shut about the overclocking capabilities of Fury X.

I'm not defending AMD. We all know that the Fury does not overclock well. Quit beating a dead horse.

The point is that everyone should take the Zen +40% slide with a ton of salt, when we had Bulldozer slides that went down the toilet and Fury X promises that was untrue.
