Which GPU should I buy for 21:9 (2560x1080) gaming?

Hi!

I am thinking to buy a GPU for 21:9 gaming. My monitor's native resolution is 2560x1080 (LG 25UM65).

This is my current configuration:

CPU: Intel Core i5 4440 @ 3.10 GHz
Motherboard: Gigabyte B85M HD3
Ram: 8 GB DDR3
OS: Windows 7
PSU: Seasonic S12II 520W

I would like to know which GPU is the best to play games at 2560x1080 at 60 FPS on Very High-Ultra settings. My budget is 54K (INR).

I'm thinking maybe R9 390 or GTX 980. I am not interested in GTX 970 coz my brother has it and it is already seeming to struggle at 1440P (GTA 5 and TW3).

Games I will be playing mostly are GTA 5 and The Witcher 3. I would like to play them at very high-ultra settings at 60 FPS. So, I think R9 390 would be a safe bet! Going by the prices here in India, it is cheaper and would save me some amount that I can spend on a new cabinet and a PSU.

GTX 980 costs 6K extra here in India I think, but I am not sure if it would be future proof (given its VRAM).

Which one do you think I should go for?

Thanks in advance!

980 is the better card. But the 390 is much cheaper and not a whole lot slower

So, I should go for R9 390 then? smile.gif

390 are fine for 2560x1080 but if you want to maintain 60fps for the majority of games without turning down the settings, the 980 will be the better gpu for this resolution regarding your options.

Check out this video & pay attention to the minimum fps thumb.gif

Considering the cost difference in your country compared to the performance of these cards, the 390 seems like the better choice.

I converted it to $CAD (just so I could understand) and it's $1000 for the 390 compared to $1200 for the 980.

There might be better and cheaper solutions too however I didn't factor that in (older series gpus/ buying used) etc
