Question about Audio out

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I have my pc connected to an AV receiver (Pioneer Elite-VSX80) via HDMI and Optical Out. The HDMI is from my PCIE video card, and optical out from sound blaster Z. I went this way because I believe optical out from sound blaster Z will give better audio quality, where as if HDMI feeds both video and audio, the onboard sound processor will be used, and wont have as good of quality audio compared to sound blaster Z. Am I correct? or, since signal is digital, it wont matter the source, and since the receiver is converting to analog, the source wont matter, and either way sound will be the same.

Thanks.

The latter is correct. The receiver does it all. I still prefer optical though because the noise rejection is superior to HDMI.
