Crossfire is still going to work the same as before, 4GB per GPU. DX12 is supposed to pool the memory together.

Well in other words the upcoming Amd dual gpu counterpart will have an effective 4gb of memory which is a deal breaker for me. What's the point of having all that gpu power with such limited memory.

Actually, the FuryX is not limited by the 4GB HBM. But a dual FuryX may become indeed limited. Although not much i believe.

Until AMD either switches to HMB2 or a uses a new interposer they will be limited to 2 GPUs, each with 4GB of VRAM. The Fury XT will basically be just 2 Fury X's on one card. It will have all the same limitations as just using 2 Fury X's in Crossfire. It's really just the same as all the dual GPU cards before ... GTX 690, R9 295X2, HD 4870X2, 3870X2, etc.

DirectX 12 can combine video memory, IF the program is spectifically written to do that, and you are running DX12, and of course you are running Windows 10. Which means, for every single game out there now, and to the best of my knowledge, no company who is soon to release a DX12 game has said they are going to take advantage of this feature. Also, if you aren't running Windows 10, you will only have 4GB, and if you are playing a game that is using DX9, 10, or 11, you also are limited to 4GB.

Because HBM1 is mearly a stepping stone to the real next generation of memory, HBM2.

That is why nVidia wasn't busting their hump to get on HBM1. They can throw 6GB or 8GB or 12GB of GDDR5 and ride out the whole HBM1 generation. Most likely they will eventually use HBM1 on a Maxwell refresh, which will now be a "mid-tier" card. But for their upcoming "top-tier" cards, they aren't even gonna mess with HBM1, they will go right to HBM2.

Basically you have to walk (HBM1) before you can run (HBM2). nVidia has a good enough lead in the market (not to mention their Titan X and GTX 980Ti is just as fast or faster using "old" GDDR5 memory, that they can afford to start off running and let AMD waste their time and money learning to walk first.

It is technically possible to make a larger interposer to hold 8 stacks and give you 8GB of memory on HBM1 (the current generation).

I doubt that will be done (but who knows) because HBM2 is right around the corner (samples are out now and both AMD and nVidia have them). With HBM2, the bandwidth is double that of HBM1 and the memory capacity is also larger. With just 4 stacks, you can have either 8GB or 16GB of memory. With HBM2 and 8 stacks, you can go all the way to 32GB.

Right now there is debate as to what the first Pascal's will have ... 8GB of HMB2 or 16GB of HBM2. The 32GB 8-Hi won't appear until after Pascal, aka Volta.

By first pascal if u mean the GP104 it will likely to be 8GB, if its a titan rest assured it will be 16GB, there is no point is downgrading from a 12GB Titan X to a 8GB Pascal Titan.

Especially if we know Titan is not aimed at just hardcore gamer and budget professional user.

Wccftech. The tech tabloid if there ever was one. People don't quote the national inquirer for news, so I don't know why people post so much wccftech on this website. All we are doing is providing income for the worst tech website on the planet. Considering their articles and content, its articles are 80 percent false rumors, 5% truth and 15% advertising. Oh more thing, 100% trolling. Look at their comment section and you will see what I am talking about. 100% hostile and this is because the articles are written in a manner to illicit fighting.

If you don't think that nVidia and AMD aren't coming out with dual GPU cards, you guys are crazy.

WCCFTech never said that it would be released on 10/10.

Not to mention, WCCFTech wasn't the only source for this. rolleyes.gif
