FX-6350 good Oc?

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm new to the forums and overclocking in general. I've read a couple of blogs, so i gave it a try and found that I'm running stable at 4.6ghz on 1.45v. I"m wondering if this is a good overclock for my chip and if i can do better. I have my HT Link speed at 2600mhz and NB at 2200, i heard they work best if you can get them as close as possible for best performance.

Rig-
990FX-UD3
FX-6350 - Hyper 212evo
XFX Radeon 7850 series
Psu- thermaltake 750w

2x4 (8gb) DDR3 Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz 9-9-9-24-1T (NB 2200mhz)

Now I'm just wondering what you guys think and if i could push it abit more to the 5gbz mark.

Thanks in-advance smile.gif

That's a solid OC.

You're probably going to be thermal limited before you run out of voltage, but I'd try for 4.8 and see how it fairs.

Okay, ill give it a try and when i was reading some guides, it said that the safe zone for voltage is between 1.45v to 1.50v. It gives me some wiggle room to try and get to 4.8. What temperatures should i keep this chip under? and what do you mean by " Thermal Limited"?.

According to your screenshot you are already hitting 61C. IMO you definitely want to keep it under 60C so I already would not be adding more voltage as that would only increase temperatures further.

The thermal margin is 70c I believe in AMD OverDrive for Vishera, so basically yeah you don't necessarily want the temp exceeding much above 61c, that's already close imo.

Redzo, AMD Overdrive Thermal Margin doesn't work that way. It doesn't read temperature Per Se. It shows margin. The higher the number the better.
The thermal margin is 70C and the BD uArch is rated for 80C peak (not continuous). The magical number under which the CPU should be kept is 70. Keeping it below 61 is no different than keeping it below 50 or 40, it's pointless. These CPU's do not show instability until above 70, they're not Phenom's, they're Bulldozers (Vishera in this case).

Even after all this time I don't understand why some cling to 61C. It's like having an Intel CPU and desperately trying to keep it below 50C when these CPU's are rated to go all the way up to 100 and still be fine. People have no problem with running their GPU's at between 90 and 100 yet get nervous when their BD gets over 61.

Vague statements and different numbers from AMD over the years combined with groupthink=misinformation

I've long considered 70C to be my soft limit on Vishera, although there's no throttling observable even then.
