FX-6350 good Oc? - Page 2

Throttling can be set in the BIOS, though usually it's the VRM's that overheat long before the cores do.

I have seen my CPU hit 77 and not been worried about it. Chinese even maintain 80 as the limit, not 70 as the technical specs state 80 to be the absolute limit with shutdown after that. AMD CPU's are robust, killing these things is damned hard.

These CPU's do not show instability until above 70, they're not Phenom's, they're Bulldozers (Vishera in this case).

Even after all this time I don't understand why some cling to 61C. It's like having an Intel CPU and desperately trying to keep it below 50C when these CPU's are rated to go all the way up to 100 and still be fine. People have no problem with running their GPU's at between 90 and 100 yet get nervous when their BD gets over 61.

All you say it's true. The 62C limit, was rooted in the mind of many for long time, because AMD had made no official disclosure saying otherwise about FX, up until about 1 year ago, when in Overdrive, it introduced the thermal margin, instead of core temp. And so, indirectly, hinted the 70C. For the previous years, AMD was tacitly letting overclockers believe, that the 62C was "good". Psychologically, i still stick with the 62C, but because i am very conservative. For me 60C is a temperature i never want to break in anything. But it's my quirk. Overclockers can now go to 70C with AMD's blessing, as you say. I just like to always leave a margin of safety, beyond the margin of the manufacturer.
