63 degrees while gaming too hot for AMD FX 8350?

Hey guys,

I have an AMD FX 8350 4ghz at stock volts and my motherboared is an ASUS m5a99fx pro. I thought I would look at my temps using Fan Xpert (which I use to control my fans). While putting Saints Row: Gat outta Hell in windowed mode I was maxing and capping out at 63 degrees. I have a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler. I have used AMD one drive and it says I have a 24 degree temperature margin. I expected better temperatures. What I was wondering is was I right to expect better temperatures. I have read many mixed results saying 60+ is too high and some saying those temps are fine. Its the first time of using AMD's FX line so I'm still learning. Really don't want to have to reapply thermal paste but does anyone think it may be worth it?

Cheers Guys!

Download hwinfo64 to check your temps, but yes, that sounds way too high for stock voltage.

I'd try a remount of the cooler.

Go ahead and play your game while hwinfo is running, monitor temps.

Is that while gaming or simply just running the monitoring program?

Just while the program was opened. I had been gamin previously to this. I reapplied the thermal paste and I'm now at 38 degrees. I will have to test this in gaming.

Fairly normal i would say. Run IBT for 10-15 minutes on Maximum and check what temps you are reaching. If it start going over 90, stop it. Should average out somewhere around 80-85 during such stress test.

Package is the temperature of the CPU die. 70C is the maximum sustainable temperature of the package. Spikes above that are fine provided they aren't sustained.

The other temp listed is the temp of the CPU socket. This is motherboard dependant but staying below 70-75C is generally the usual range.
