You answered your own question everyone wants to be a "hero"

Why do people play games? Well maybe because the real world can be boring at times. You can't always do everything but you can do anything in games. And that why I think people play unrealistic games which is every video game basically.

I do not want to be a hero. I do not need to be a hero. I play ordinary people or persons of authority. By aplying the same logic I came to conclussion that heros are played by ordinary people.

Yes. That is queite obvious and I was not asking that. Why people play different games. To compensate what they are missing in the real life. Therefore people who play big heroes miss a chance to change something. To make their life matter and their voice and opinion to matter. To be an important person. Or only to be more then just a number. To matter.

That is what I was asking. Is it true or not. What do you think. That is what I am interested in.

Why people focus on wheter gaems are realistic or not?

Most people are nameless NPC in real life. So we play the role of the hero in games. There are people in history that changed the course of history. Did they do it singlehandedly like in most games, probably not. But games are trying to give the players that feeling of shaping the world's destiny with their own decision.

OP, Most games put you in a role that is unrealistic.

Simply because no one wants to play a game where you go to work all day long.

It is a Fantasy for a Reason.

Also Bashing Great Game Series like Halo, for pretty much creating a super hero like protagonist, Is pretty shallow. Only a hand full of games have been able to proudly claim they have done so.

So really any RPG is unrealistic in your terms, Nearly all racing games are unrealistic in your terms, Nearly all action/shooters are unrealistic, list can go on buddy.

Maybe time to stop playing video games and live your life? Climb a Mountain, learn to fly a plane, or maybe travel the world? All Very real things you could be doing... tongue.gif

Good. The majority of people work nine to five without complainning. And then go home and save the universe. Why? Why do they do it. What do they lack in their lives. What is the reason behind this. Why does it manifest in gaming and not in revolution or something like that? Is it simply I want to try something different or is it a need that needs to be fulfilled. Why do you need to be a hero?

I talked about this with my friend and he said he played Mass Effect because he wants to do good deeds. That suprised me. Just do good deeds in the reality. But he does not do that. If you want to change the world, change the world. People who can change the world work to change it. So people who play heroic games do not know how could they change the world. If they knew, they would do it. Or maybe not. It is a bit harder to do in reality. Or is it lack of importance and porpose of their work. Or both. And why it is so pronounced in the USA?

And then he asks why does he play horrors. What could that mean? I do not know.

The only persons who singlehandedly changed the history were murderes.

May I know how did you arive at that assumption? Because I am totaly baffled. I would love to know. I think I know the answer why people focus on the it is not realistic, but I want to hear your explanation.

Sounds like you should do some research into the Psychology field, since it sounds like that's the type of information you're actually after.

While on that topic, people tend to enjoy video games because of the instant gratification that they offer. If you do good deeds in real life, you may or may not actually get any sort of gratitude for your actions, whereas games always give you something - exp, weapons, armor, etc. You also have the ability to do good deeds with a larger scope of effect in games vs real life, and also see the results of those actions. Another reason people might play these games is to be able to do things that they wouldn't normally be able to do in real life.

I just came across a couple of articles that might help you understand why people play games. It's actually some good info: thumb.gif

Man vs the world has got to be the oldest literary trope in history, and one of the most popular.
It's because it's human to adore heros.
Maybe it'd be good for you to see a psychologist.

My hero is polt. Quack.

Let's take your exact question and apply it to different scenarios.

1) Why do people ride bikes? Is it because they really wish they had wheels instead of legs? Why do people wish the had wheels? Do all people secretly want to be cars? Do we all want to be transformers? Why can we be humans and not ride bikes and just walk everywhere instead?

2) Why do people go swimming? Is it because they really wish they were fish? Can they not accept that they aren't meant to live in water? What makes people go out of their way to a beach or lake or swimming pool, just to swim? We can't breathe under water. Why can't they just accept it?

3) Why do people play chess? Is it because they want to pretend like they are controlling people? Getting to decide their every move? Why chess? It's just simple pieces on a simple board. Why can't they accept its not real life and stop playing it?

4) Why do people go pee in toilets? Can't they see they are just spending money on a toilet for no reason? Why can't they just pee outside in a bush? Is it because they secretly love plants so much they don't want to urinate on them? Why can't they just wear a top hat that has a small plant in it and become one with the tree? Why do they have to instead result in peeing in a toilet?

You're asking why someone with free will does whatever they want for fun. Go take a psychology class.
