To be blunt ... because it's their program and they can do what they want.

Having said that, I do think that being able to turn off all reported SHOULD be an option. Of course I have a list of about 7,832 things that SHOULD happen in life and this doesn't even crack the top 5,000.

there is a gif somewhere in thread that displays that whenever you go and try to search something on your pc, it contacts ms servers. what proof more you need?

This is exactly why I haven't upgraded to Win10. I'd rather muck around with Win 7 and Linux in the meantime until the behemoth, game-changing API Vulkan is released. Star Citizen will be available on Linux, which is all that really matters to me, so I may as well leave Windows behind now. Most new games using the major engines (UE4, CE3, Unity, Source) will/do support Linux so I will only be missing major studio pre-order-and-dlc-riddled messes, which is fine by me. Once Vulkan hits, Linux games will be on-par with or better than DX12, which is fantastic. So I'm beginning to ask myself if I'll ever need Windows after 7.

There's going to come a time when nobody will want or need Windows and that day is coming soon.
i used ubuntu ultimate for a year with urban terror as fps 3d game to scratch my itch for gaming. that was back in 2009 on my ancient pentium 4 3ghz. then i got win7 and a new machine and been on it ever since and will remain on it forever. turned off automatic updates a month ago, and am protected by antivir, firewall, spybot and a hw router + some other stuff ...

they also charged him with a law from 1914, under which he is guilty by default and there are no other considerations. it would be basically assisted suicide for him to come back, as long as he is charged under that law

Its worse than that, out of curiosity i let my PC to run idle(no one used it) while my laptop logged network traffic with wireshark. I seen this and other ms related stuff several times in the log:

This, 100%. I mean, which is it guys? Your mock outrage at this devious and unacceptable invasion of privacy or the ability to play games? Seems to me that if you are truly not completely full of it then you should make the decision here and now to never run another version of evil Windows ever again...

Several of MS' servers use the address NSATC so it has nothing to do with the NSA as far as I know.

I didn't even quote 10% of the article, but it really is pretty accurate. There was a lot of crying and moaning about the unique identifier numbers but the fact of the matter is that it is trying to identify if there is problems with hardware compatibility with certain windows functions. I thought the tears over Windows 8 were pretty strong and then Windows 10 came and you guys threw another tantrum. AT work on my conference period and I immediately logged into OCN from a workstation here and made sure to give you folks a dosage of reality.

people like what they like and hate what they hate because they are human, nothing you can do to change that. most you can do is change a few opinion and that ain't gonna happen. The distaste for 8 and 10 is a on a massive scale and when it's that big there isn't something to it. Very few people like Vista and i remember when peeps were trying to defend it. Then an optimized and stripped down version of vista called windows 7 came out and many of us are still using it. People like what they like and hate what they hate.

Even if 10 is safe and secure and private, it's still an extra service burning up CPU cycles and if it's not that it's this and so forth. Might change a few opinions but, the bandwagon is pretty bug but, IMHO i can totally understand why if not for a privacy policy i can certainly question performance and lack of meaningful features my self but, I ain't complaining, i'm using windows 7 and linux and OS X instead.
