i wonder about that, theres quite a bit of kickstarted games, without "pre-ordering" in kickstart they wouldn't even be able to start developing the game.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't pre-order, and the last thing I kickstarted was a dirt-bike.

The only way to avoid being a sheep is to do as you wish by standing for or behind what you believe in. If you want to preorder a game but don't cause people say not to then that is a sheep like mindset.

If I choose to pay for and play half of hitman because I want to then there is nothing at all wrong with it. I'd rather pay half and op l give them the other half when they finish making it. Not really preaccess. The half I'm buying had better be completely done and optimized. If not I'm not going to buy.

Kickstarting is a different beast in that you go into it knowing the risks. However, what say you pay for the full Hitman game upfront and then the developer collapses? You'll never see the other half of the game. Even if you just pay for the intro pack and they collapse you're still stuck with a game that will never be finished. And from what I've read we're not just talking about DLC, we're talking about the campaign, which I take to mean the core story based single player game.

It may not concern others, but it is a concern to me. I won't be buying until the whole thing is out and everything promised is present.

Half life 2 ep: 3? Shenmue? A ton of games have been like this. Some like Mass Effect were actually finished. Shenmue might be finished much later than planned. Same trend continues with books and movies.

Still I'm rarely willing to pay full price for something that isn't out yet. 5 dollar discount isn't enough for me. Only reason why I'm even bother to defend this game is because of all of the misinformation in this thread.

So they expect me to pay a full price for 6 missions? And pay double to get 3 more later?

I understand you have contracts mode and all, but what if you're only interested in the story?
I'll wait and see. The price will come down eventually.

I believe majority will wait til it's <$20 in a Steam sale.

I haven't played a Hitman game in years. Can't remember which the last one was but they got boring to me. Will look into them again thanks to this thread and considering how busy I am this game might even be less than 20 USD by the time I get round to it.

I like to paraphrase Boogie2988 from youtube when it comes to kickstarters, "your contribution to a kickstarter has to be viewed as a donation, as you don't know if you'll receive anything in the end." I would love it if the model of releasing games in phases could work. Instead of waiting for a 2-5 year development cycle we could have more frequent releases and enjoy content over a longer period instead of hashing out 100+ hours in one go. This may not appeal to many people that want the whole thing at once but for people that have to limit their gaming to a few hours a day this could be a godsend.

I'd blame the 'mobile & ipad gaming lemming consumer masses' more than anything else for the way game business practices have went down the tubes in recent years. When the masses are idiots, I don't blame companies for taking advantage of them one bit. The downside is, us normal consumers get stuck with crap like this.
