Higher Temps still exist!

Thread Starter
I have had this system for years and I always had higher core temps with it. I just could never get the temps down to say 30c - 33c like most other owners of the H50 water cooled had. I have tried a few things over time including Lapping the base plate of the cooler.

I am running the below spec machine yet. I have just clocked it up to 3.2ghz and my cores as I type are 45c to 50c.

Real temps reports

I clean my fans and radiator regular and is there anything else I can do do try and lower it more.

Thx.

Make sure you are running the balanced Windows lower plan, you can check this via Control Panel > Power options.

Check if you have your Intel C-states enabled in the bios. (C1E/C3/C6/etc) You can check this in the motherboard bios.

Are you using manual or offset/adaptive voltage for your CPU overclock? Because if you have manual, it'll just stay near the same voltage and not drop down. By much.

Also check if you have Intel speed step technology enabled. If this isn't enabled. Your CPU may not clock down to a lower clcok speed and CPU voltage such as 1.4 GHz / 0.928v.

I have all the required disabled as in the C-states I been through all that yet it is my cooling. I guess I will have to leave it as it is. I dropped the speed to 2.9Ghz but temps are still the same as the 3.2Ghz setting.
My power plan at running for full tilt CPU at 100%.
I put my papers up but since I am not running anything extreme the voltage is in auto mode. I have tweaked a few things but it is always the case auto setting or tweaked my cores run warmer then they should. Yes I also have my Processor fan control in BIOS running always.

So I think either the CPU needs to be lapped or it would require a better cooler all together. Since I have lapped the base plate of the cooler I would lean to the CPU as the problem.
I have to check if I have any TIM leftover before starting this... But I migh just try to lap the processor to see.

These CPU's will simply idle hot if you do that. Also, a h50 is at the lower end of cooling - too low to be freaking out a little and lapping the baseplate + CPU IHS over. Set your balanced power plan to go to min CPU freq when not loaded, see temps then. They're probably in line with other fairly alright but low end coolers at those voltages

You're doing the opposite there. If you want lower idle temps, you must let the CPU to be able to automatically throttle down when idle. Since you only changed the windows power plan, you should change it back to Balanced. Optionally if you want slightly lower power consumption when idle, enable C-states especially C3 & C6.

I'm using a h100i at the moment on a w3520 at 4.0 and idle in the low 40s. These chips just run hot.

The C States will lower your idle power consumption and core temperatures but if you enable either the C3 or C6 C State, the Core i7-920 will start using the 22 multiplier when a single core is active. With C States enabled, there is no way to prevent this feature.

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core%20i7-920%20AT80601000741AA%20(BX80601920%20-%20BXC80601920).html
http://ark.intel.com/products/37147/Intel-Core-i7-920-Processor-8M-Cache-2_66-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI

2933 MHz / 133 MHz BCLK = 22 multiplier

If you are overclocking, the extra MHz from the 22 multiplier when lightly loaded can cause instability. Many users with these CPUs never realized what was causing their instability so they usually disabled the C States to avoid this problem. With the C States enabled, you might have to bump the core voltage up a little to avoid light load crashes but that will increase your temps when fully loaded.

Your present core temperatures look about right considering the C States are disabled and you are using the Windows High Performance power profile.

Here is likely to be your problem, Auto mode has a tendency to push an insane amount of volts and majority are unnecessary, please overclock it properly and I will guarantee your temps will be lower thumb.gif

Set your Vcore to 1.26 qpi to 1.3 dram to 1.65 and pll to 1.8 everything else should be good to leave on auto. That should be stable.

I don't know what you are getting at here? Sounds to me like you want me to burn up my machine. The other posters make sense but your post is all about raising vales higher then they are now and you think this will help lower temps.

Also so you know I looked over you other posts and it seems you know less about overclocking then anybody.

I tweaked a few settings as the above posters mentioned and yes I am running mid 30's now and that is way lower then it has been in ages..

I suggest you get up to understanding how to overclock and post you system/s specs if you want anyone to take you half seriously.
