Some masterful trolling in this thread.
Lots of contradictions from the defenders.

They made it "harder" (and I use that term VERY losely here) so the 99% of users that are not tech savy don't accidently turn it off. They want it on and not easily to turn off so the 99% of users who have no idea what they are doing still receive updates everytime they come out so they can make sure their product stays the way it should.

People keep ignoring the fact that W10 is a very dumbed down OS that is meant to just work. That's it. Not to give you tons of customization options. They don't want someone accidently changing things when they have no idea what they are doing. If you know what you're doing (or know how to type google.com into your address bar) then you can change all the things that people in this thread are saying can't be done. If googling how to turn something on or off is too hard, then you might be part of the 99% that were meant not to touch it.

I like the meant to just work approach MS is using. I don't want to worry about anything unless it is a problem, and I trust MS to handle the updates.
I don't know if the os is dumbed down so much as intentionally designed to appear simple and to steer people away from meddling in things that may have unintended consequences. W 10 does a lot of stuff, and gives so many options most people could get confused. Give them spreadsheets and flow diagrams and their eyes will glaze.

Keeping the core functionality obscured, yet still accessible sorts lots of accidents out. Giving a very complicated os a distinct, minimalistic look helps keep intimidation at bay and shepards the common and lazy users about their tasks. I know I don't want my daughter button mashing settings on a tablet on a car ride just to have those settings spread across every computer on my home network when we get home. drool.gif

The day before yesterday a Win 8 update was released that destroyed not only my laptop but also my desktop's Windows. Have had to reinstall both and I've decided to upgrade to Win 7.

Yeah, OK. rolleyes.gif Meanwhile, I've never once had an update screw up any of my PC's so there you go. Anecdotes are completely irrelevant...
