Geforce 8800 DESTRUCTION Competition - DISCUSSION THREAD

The Geforce 8800 series are among the most iconic video cards ever produced by Nvidia. Now they lay forgotten in closets and drawers and garages. Overclock.net wants you to take them out, dust them off, solder them and ultimately destroy them. But, of course, not before laying down a few runs of 3DMark '01, '03 and Aquamark.

If your thinking to yourself, "Why does OCN just like to give prizes to Dhenzjhen?" Do not worry. This contest is limited to Geforce 8800 of the GS, GT, and GTS varieties only. All GTX and ULTRA cards are banned from this competition, real overclockers use G92 Core.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I have an FX 5500 can I use it?

No.

I have an 8600 GT is it legal?

Nope.

Which cards are legal?

Any Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS (all versions), Nvidia Geforce 8800 GT (all versions), and Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS (all versions).

My card is the 8800 GTS 640, is has the G80 core can I use it?

Yes, it is an 8800 GTS and therefore legal.

My 9600 GSO is a rebadged 8800 GS and has a G92 core, is it legal?

No.

I have a GTX 9800 GTX that has a G92 core, is it legal?

No.

There are other GPU cards using the G92 core, why are they not allowed?

In the interest of simplicity the contest is limited to 8800 GS, GT, and GTS. It is simple to moderate the submissions by keeping it limited to one series of cards. Trying to determine if this GT 240 is the G92 core or G215, or if this 9800 GTX but not a 9800 GTX+, or if this is 9800 GX2 legal with only one core running, or is my 9800M laptop legal for this competition. The moderators are well aware there are other G92 cores out there, and many rebadged Nvidia cards. This competition is limited to Nvidia Geforce 8800 GS, GT, and GTS cards.

I have a GTS 250 with a G92 core, can I use it for this competition?

No, but if you want to show off your modding and overclocking skills post your results up in the DISCUSSION THREAD and we will put them into the G92 Gallery of Honors. Every great score deserves recognition.

The 8800 that aren't GTX or Ultra are pretty cheap on eBay, lots of time to find one for $20
