Hope it has Samsung!

Just arrived 10 minutes ago!

Also worth noting this is the first time I got a package that used a vacuum cleaner bag as packing material tongue.gif

Thread Starter

I think I am going to officially say the BIOS seems to have nothing to do with the memory chips, that one looks like a 05.  Nice grab Epic!

Looks like the card needs a vaccum anyway tongue.gif

I'm shocked they deliver so late on a Saturday in America? In the UK latest anything arrives on a Sunday ismid-day
post #364 of 677
Welp bad news, a lack of properly tiny soldering tips has struck again.

I ordered the pots needed for the mods, and in the meantime I figured I'd get all the hard soldering done.

I soldered the points to read the memory and gpu voltage, superglued them down, even took apart a molex, connected it up, superglued that down.

Then I moved on to the gpu voltage mod and after getting the wire on, i wasnt sure if I bridged the adjacent resistor and when moving the wire to inspect it, the pad broke off, and after a few more attempts I managed to get a nice blob of solder on the area.

So this card is done for.

It was actually delivered via USPS before noon, which is about when it usually does in my area.

I've attempted this before, and I can tell you blow by blow what'll happen.

I'll poke my soldering iron in there with my wick, and i'll end up picking up not only the solder but the next 3 resistors near it.

Those resistors are so tiny, i could probably put 2 side by side and that's about the size of the tip of my soldering iron frown.gif

And to make things worse, in the process some of the undried superglue from the wire ran down the wire and flooded the area in question, I managed to burn most of it off before it dried, but it still would probably complicate things quite a bit more.

I should have bought it! Didn't think it would come with Samsung since that seems to be so rare on the EVGA cards.

Drop a PM to @mllrkllr88. He'll usually do some sweet mods for a few bucks plus shipping. He's a pro! thumb.gif

Good luck with that, I had quite a hefty reserve on that auction. smile.gif

No I'd never have someone else do my mods, it seems like cheating to me, and then at that point I might as well say "hey throw it in a rig and grab some benches for me while your at it". However:

The Volt Mod Gods must be on my side today or something because to my amazement, I've somehow managed to clean up my mess and trudge onward!

I found out the blob of solder was actually on top of the superglue, and it was easy to remove. rolleyes.gif

Then, by some pure luck I was able to solder on the wire to side of the resistor that is connected to that pad I ripped off. And after some sketchy continuity checks, I think its good and I've sealed it up with a HUGE blob of hotglue, to prevent having to re-do this nearly impossible stunt.

A few pictures for your entertainment.redface.gif

I see no harm or foul in someone helping out with voltmods, as someone who knows what they're doing will have tidier work plus can do it in half the time or less.

It's like getting a shop to do the engine work on your track car, nothing wrong with making use of resources that are out there.

I'll probably do my firs tvoltmod but that's also because I've wanted to give such a shot (after I practice my soldering skills. It has been fifteen some years or so)
