AMD FX 8320 Black edition overclocking

Thread Starter
What software do I need to clock my CPU? When I built this PC I think it was easytune6 that I ran some tests on it with. That was with Windows 7 Home. Since, I have upgraded to Windows 10. Now when I open easytune it does appear to give me the options to overclock? I use to start and it would do it automatically until it crashed, or I could set my targets. Now when I open easytune it says, "This driver can't release to failure".What does that mean? Can I not still set targets even if it won't go to failure? Which driver is it talking about?
I'm running a 970A-DS3P Gigabyte mainboard with F1 bios. The only adjustment it will let me make is to the BCLK. I'm net experienced at overclocking so can I get what I want by adjusting the BCLK? If so how do I know what to set it to? I can set the ratio target, and CPB ratio target, CPU Vcore target, GFX Core target, and DRAM Voltage target.
It's a 3.5 processor and I'm trying get to 4.2 - 4.5. How do get there with the settings it will let me change, or what program do I need to be using if that's what it is?
I don't need a crash course, just a straight forward answer please.
Thanks in advance.

Software overclocking is bad m'kay? Really. If you want to overclock, I highly suggest learning how to do it in BIOS. You can get much better results that way and have better control over the settings you need control over to maintain stability.

There are no straight forward answers when it comes to overclocking. Every processor is like a unique snowflake. The same settings that work for one person aren't going to work for the next. There is also a lot of testing involved in making sure your settings are dialed in correctly to maintain stability.

That being said, I'm not sure why you are unable to change more settings. Perhaps you aren't looking in the right places. Here is a video of someone overclocking their FX6300 on that same board.

Keep in mind, you are going to have to find your own settings that work with your setup; Multiplier, Ratio, Voltage, FSB etc.

If you insist on overclocking with software, whatever software you were using to OC in Win7 likely will at the very least need to be re-installed and re-configured in Windows 10. You will likely even need a Windows 10 updated version of whatever software you were using to OC. As for specific OC software, beats me.

Okay, next question. Is it best to use the cpu Northbridge frequency and/or ht link frequency, clock ratio, or go into advanced cpu core features...? What is the best way to overclock? Or can i bump all of these settings up little by little until it becomes unstable? Also, when changing those settings is it safe to change the vcore loadline calibration to extreme or leave it on auto? Give me some guidelines to follow if you will
please. I have some experience but very little. I don't know how changing multiple settings works exactly. You know like how each setting affects another.
If i change cpu settings do i also have to change memory voltages?

What's a safe running temperature? Is 60┬░Celsius dangerous?
Like I was saying, there really are no straight forward answers. Overclocking is a complex procedure that requires most of all reading, and reading, and reading, did I mention reading?

There are many guides and so much info it can make your head spin. To get started though, check these resources out.

http://www.overclock.net/t/902756/amd-overclock-guide-for-newbs/0_100
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MckeAmnDeTk

After getting your footing, start looking for more specific information on overclocking your specific setup. Look for things like 8320 overclock settings. Perhaps use someone else's settings as a baseline or a goal line. But it's all about starting small and inching your way up. If you try to start with the wrong settings (may be fine for someone else's setup) you could end up smoking your gear, and not just your CPU. You have to keep an eye on motherboard temperatures as well. There are several points on a mobo that heat up when you overclock and if you don't have proper cooling, you're gonna let the smoke out, and you cant put the smoke back in.

Good luck!

Okay so I'm at 4.50Ghz on my cpu. I don't know what the other settings do exactly. So what normally needs to be adjusted? Vcore, nb core, dram voltage, vcore loadline? Cpu Northbridge, htlink...?
Thread Starter
I had the cpu Northbridge at 2800MHz and htlinkat 2600MHz and it would not boot. I put the htlink on auto and Northbridge on 2800 and it would not boot. Htlink on auto and Northbridge at 2600 MHz and it boots fine.
Haven't messed with the bclk yet or the others i listed above. What if anything should i adjust?

Nevermind. I guess it blew something up when i changed those settings. Windows won't load at all. It war great until i changed the htlink and had the Northbridge at 2800 MHz. So now i gotta figure out if it's the mobo or the chip i exploded. Even at the default settings window won't load.
