Dual Xeon E5-2699 V3 Workstation in a Blackbird 002 Case

The goal here is to breathe some new life in to this unique case by offering enough computing power to handle whatever I wish to indulge in (compositing, video editing, gaming, video encoding, Hauptwerk, sampled instruments, physics sims), while also paying as below MSRP for the parts as I can.

Here is the current parts list, with a + next to the parts already purchased & the the price paid for them:

-Two Intel Xeon E5-2683 v3 production chips (28/56H threads total) + $1600 (for both, not each).
-2x 32GB LRDIMM (Samsung ECC) + one DIMM purchased for $190.
-Asus Z10PE-D8 WS motherboard + Purchased for $333 (will have to straighten a few socket pins though).
-2x Noctua NH-D15 + both purchased for $170.
-1x Samsung 950 PRO M.2 (Available in Nov).
-Morpheus GPU Cooler + Purchased for $67.
-5x Noctua NF-A15 (one intake, two upper exhaust, two for GPU cooler), 1x Noctua NF-A14 (lower intake), 1x Noctua NF-P14 (PSU) + A14 purchased for $15.

These components will be paired with the following existing components:

-1.6TB of SATA drives (Will have to consider getting a large SATA SSD or HDD to replace these).
-GTX480 (Flashed to appear as a Quadro),
-Decklink Mini Monitor
-LG Blu-Ray XL drive
-1.2KW PSU
-IBM Model M Keyboard
-Pioneer KRP500M (For video monitoring)
-Stereo USB DAC + Paradox Headphones

Pictures will come as the system comes together : ).

Thanks! This build is only being done because I lucked out so well on those Xeons; they are SR1XH chips not some ES variant, and are NIB! So surreal I was able to find them.

Unfortunately the individual who was selling me the ASUS mobo has decided to reconsider the sale. I'm not really too keen on spending more than 400 on a mobo, so I was considering this SuperMicro*, but I was really liking the 4x PCIE 3.0 M.2 slot on the Asus : (.

Update! I was able to procure the Asus mobo for 333! It seems to have been unused as well which is a plus. The only downside is that I'll need to straighten about 8 of the LGA2011 socket pins. Does anyone have some advice on how this can be successfully done?

Here is a pretty good video about fixing bent 2011-3 pins: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZOkBkArwA7A

So, what do you need:
-Stable hands
-Very, very sharp knife or needle

Thanks! Excellent video.

I have steady hands as well as fine implements. Thankfully, I also have a B&L loupe which should make this task somewhat easier.

Will post pictures of the mobo and report on my progress later this week : ).

First parts have arrived! It's amazing to me that one stick of ram can hold 32gb these days (as well as 14 cores in one chip). I should be getting the motherboard, GPU heatsink, and second Noctua cooler tomorrow. With any luck, I'll have the system posting (with one CPU until I get another stick of ram)!

First mod made to the case parts. Basically cutting out the sides so I could mount a 140mm fan vs a 120mm.

Here is my workup for the case airflow. The orange lines are there Noctua fans, red and blue should be self explanatory, and the green is the Nvidia card with the Morpheus heatsink on it. Anyone have critiques or recommendations on this matter?

It seems I've been had : (.

While the lids on each chip show an S-Number (production level), CPUZ reports the following for both processors:

"Specification Genuine Intel(R) CPU @ 2.00GHz (Engineering Sample)"

I have no idea how the lid can say one thing and CPUZ say another... (I guess that's what I get for buying processors from China). Could it be that the seller swapped the lids between some ES chips and production chips?

so are the engineering samples not able to work with dual sockets? is there a performance loss? I'm all ready to check out with a similar system. thanks!
