Hi Guys,

I am looking for a motherboard for a new chip that i recently acquired tongue.gif 5820k

So I`m mostly looking at Asus and a little at MSI. I have almost always had Asus boards and never had any issues so I`m a little impartial.

I`m looking at the older non 3.1 boards on clearance at some retailers x99 sabertooth (new around 400) & the asus rampage V (around 400) ALSO the x99 Asus Deluxe (used but almost new & cheaper price)

Finally while researching I have been stumbling on some great reviews of the MSI x99 boards. They seem plain design wise but apparently cover all the basic features neeeded...

Considering I bought the 5820k on already... I want to get the best board(features+look) for the money.

My components will be:

CORSAIR 750D
2 X SSDS
2 X R9 290
1 X EVGA G2 1300

Help me decide! With comments & feedback if possible! thumb.gif

If all those boards are the same price, I see little reason to not get the ROG board; otherwise I like the Deluxe. I just picked one up and am quite happy with it, though I admit aesthetics was half the decision.

Yea I was personally aware that the deluxe and the rog is roughly the same board. Any feedback on the sabertooth? as that is the one I like the most aesthetically.

Finally any feedback on the msi boards?

thanks!

I highly recommend that you avoid all X99 Asus motherboards:

I strongly recommend against the Sabertooth. The owner's club has seen some problems with it and the cover although it looks nice, makes your components get hotter.

If you must get an Asus X99, get the Asus X99 Rampage Extreme, as it seems to have the best BIOS updates.

MSI boards are pretty good. An X99A XPower is their top of line, and one of the top end boards, but a cheaper board like the X99A Krait is still pretty good and carries the same VRM. You could also consider the Asrock X99 OC Formula 3.1 and the Gigabyte X99 SOC Champion.

I own a Rampage V Extreme, but I would not purchase it if I had it to do over. In fact, I wouldn't purchase anything from ASUS.

EDIT: Reason: Lack of support and the software is horrible.

Is it really that bad?

The only thing I heard was the OC socket burning the cpus but supposedly that is resolved, no?

Yea if it isnt ASUS... which by the comments im seeing might not be the best bet. then its probably going to go to MSI.
I had a bad experience with asrock back in the day & I heard there were some issues with the gigabyte bios.

Hmm that xpower board looks nice, but wouldnt fit with my red color theme... are the gaming x99 boards good?

Hello

MSI have good x99 board the SLI Plus & Mpower & Xpower (the X99A have OC socket.. Xpower only ) as you read the Asus board have problem with power delivery killing the cpus

Also MSI board have good advantge for you ( for the 290 CF ) you will be able to use the PCI slots 1 and 3 this will give you a 3 slots between the card for better temperature while the x99-A & Pro & S will give you 2 slot only

at the end you need to know the OC socket give you nothing for the core OC the main advantage for the cache OC you can hit 4ghz-4.2ghz with no problem while with no OC socket 3.6ghz is the wall for the cache
