[Polygon] Humble store to launch subscription service next month

Received an email about this and checked it out. Not sure how I feel about it yet. The idea of a bundle of games given to me each month sounds good enough, but will they include at least one decent game to make the $12 seem worthwhile. Maybe a AAA game that's been out about a year or something similar. I know most of their bundles usually include such a game if you're paying about that much anyways, so I don't see why they couldn't do it. What do you guys think?

Correction: Polygon stating it's only one game is incorrect. In fact the Humble site states it's "a new bundle of games".

Well, initiatives like this are meant to increase revenue. So, on average, i'd say you're going to be paying more for less and less relevant games because the opposite would defeat the purpose.

I'm inclined to agree with you unfortunately. I guess it may be wishful thinking to hope for them to include any decent AAA games in the bundle. The other question that just popped into my head is, will the subscription bundles be different than the non-subscriber bundles? I'd assume that someone at Humble has thought about this already, but I didn't see any mention of it.

Yes, of course. Since the 'box' might contain games you would not have purchased anyway. So you paid for something you'd normally not pay for. The idea, however, is sound. If it turns out the content is, mostly, to my liking, I might just subscribe.

If I can't see the games I'm going to get beforehand, it doesn't really do me much good. I've got a stupid amount of games in my steam library and duplicates are likely to just sit there.

I don't buy from Humble enough to make a subscription worthwhile.

Ok, just got some clarification straight from the horse's mouth. I emailed humble support and this is the response I got back:

Hi there,

Thank you for your excitement regarding the Humble Monthly subscription!

These will absolutely be different content from our other Bundle offerings! They will feature some content that's never been bundled before!

The games included in the Humble Monthly subscription are meant to be a secret! You’ll never know what you’re going to get until after the games are released! What I can say is that each month, subscribers will get around 5 games that are a mix of hit new releases and classic games.

I hope that clears things up for you! Thanks again for reaching out to us.

While I don't buy games often from them, when I do and get duplicates or games I don't want, I just give them away here wink.gif

Nope. I'll keep the money in my wallet a secret too, and spend it elsewhere. Not going to pay $12 a month for a bunch of random shovelware with the chance of getting a game I likely already own rolleyes.gif

I may just give it a shot as long as it's a month to month subscription and I can cancel at anytime. What interests me the most is what their definition of "hit new release" is. Going by the recent cycle of new releases, we could be getting a game or two that is only a few months old. Guess I'll have to wait and see.
