Meh, not that impressive when most of that area is either water or that giant mountain which takes up like 50% of the area. I bet just like the other games it will have tiny little towns and then miles of nothing but trees.

I can't wait for it myself, besides, it's not like GTA V had a lot going on in it's map .. not meaningful stuff. At least it's still a big world, need some room to play with the fighter jets, I still get the feeling though that the map is only this big for when you hijack a cargo plane. You need it for the turning circle. thumb.gif

Net code is an entirely different beast. They scrapped the idea last time and I'm assuming this is largely an refresh of the JC2 engine though so most of the same capabilities, and limitations, will apply.

Hopefullly JC3 sells well enough to propell the the next engine to do incredible things.

People that are saying the mountain takes 50% of the map probably never played Just Cause 2, it is filled with towns and military bases on top and plenty of roads, sure there's a large part with just dirt but it is a mountain after all...

GTA V Mount Chiliad also takes up a huge amount of space and only has things at the very top and there is another large mountain with nothing on it and another one with nothing on it other than the Meditate Yoga thingy for Micheal, but its part of the world and part of the game and makes it more real, you can't have cities and people and things on every meter of the map.

I loved JC2 and looking forward to this hopefully it will be even better, I don't know why but its a pretty underrated game most people think its not good even though they never played it or don't even know about it.

Open world is a gimmick nowadays. Big map with poor content density. 70% walking aroound and 30% actual gameplay. Witcher 3, Phantom Pain all fit in this description.

But the size is irrelevant if the travel doesn't scale well. It takes about 5 min to drive a normal vehicle from the airport to the top of Las Santos. If it takes the same amount of time to drive to the top of the island from the bottom and the scale is off than the size of the map doesn't really matter matter... Plus most of it is empty wasteland (at least 2 was)

I don't really care about map size as much as how well they detail it. Dying Light is still one of the best *filled* open maps I've played.

Dying Light didn't seem all that big but seeing how much stuff you could go into or climb or explore and by the time you were kinda tired of one map, you got a new one. 3rd map was cool, but small. Can't wait for the new expansion... the new dune buggy map is supposed to be bigger than the first 3 combined.

Mad Max was fairly good but that map was practically empty. They did a fairly good job creating the map though. Nice detail, but vast nothingness.

GTAV map looked pretty and realistic but was mostly empty.

FC3 could have been great. I could never fix save issues so I just gave up.

Arkham Knight is really cool but it really feels like a cramped comic book video game map.

W3 wasn't my thing so I haven't really played it. Phantom Pain... in catalog haven't started it yet.
