I want more than 2x the performance of my 290X for 500$. If it isn't the case then I will just continue to support the sales of Nintendo 3DS and PS4 games instead.

The 980 Ti is already 50%~ better than the 290X so that shouldn't be a problem. If the specs are true then the next Nvidia flagship is probably 3 times as fast as the 290X an cut down variants should easily reach 2x the performance of 290X.

The good thing is that I don't have that itch, that need to upgrade, that fear to not have the best. It can really mess with your perspective and rationality.

I'd rather see the PC world burn to death than support it by buying 1000$ GPUs thumb.gif

Ever the Stoic. Never trust the capitalist my brother. I only got my 980 ti because it was on sale for $595 shipped new, and being 30 fps faster at 1440p across the board than a fury... well I think that is a fair exchange of money and performance increase, finally a nice gpu upgrade. I will never pay more than $600 for a card though, and I won't upgrade my 980 ti unless pascal can deliver 20-30 fps increase at 1440p across the board. Easily sell the 980 ti for around 350 to 400 when that day comes either way, /shrug

people who love a hobby have a right to spend a little money on it to enjoy, just as a kayaker spends 1 grand on his gear, i too like to spend money on my hobby... thats life... if you dont game much or its not your main hobby than good for you, but if it is your main hobby, stop hindering yourself. i dont drink or smoke, so meh. thumb.gif

What's so hard to understand here ?
"sold my used 290 in July for more than I bought it last August" - I bought a used card in August 2014 for 1000PLN, sold in July 2015 for 1050PLN (sold in 2 or 3 hours, they were 1100+ at that time). Now you can't even find one at 1100. Then I bought a 980 G1 for 1999PLN and it was the best deal on the whole site back then. The 980 ran much better than 290 but after a month I decided to break the bank and go for 980Ti. All I could get for my 980 was 1930PLN. Now they're 1800PLN. For 1999 you can get one with a full EK block. It's obvious for me that AMD hold their value better. At least in this segment. 970s hold the value much better than 980s. As for the Fury and Fury X it's a different situation, the 2.5x price difference between new Fury X and 290 is just too ridiculous to begin with, considering Fury X is much slower than 980ti.
comparing used cards here:
Used 290 - 1100+ PLN
Used 970 - 1200+ PLN
Used 980ti - 2700PLN, new - 2900PLN
New Fury X - 3000PLN, 2.7x second hand r9 290 price. I know it's new vs used but still it's ridiculous,I'd rather run 3x290 even though I'm a single card type of gamer thumb.gif. I might even end up doing so, maybe not 3x290 cause I don't wanna change my PSU, but 2x 290x lgtning/vapor. I'll probably base my choice on Tomb Raider, then deccide whether to sell or keep my 980ti.

In world Gameworks where even nVidia's titles have problems running nVidia's drama code yes.

that's pretty much everything these days. plus Fury X doesn't OC. Take a 290/290x - you're bound to hit 1150-1250, depends on your luck and the amount of crazy in your head. I had 3 of them, even the worst one did 1150 (with almost +100mv tho), that's 15% oc. The best one could run 1140mhz stable with no vcore bump, 1200 with +81mv.

That is not everything these days. Most won't be gameworks in the near future either. Battlefront eg.

Just wait until Fury/Fury-X gets voltage control. It was same scenario with 290/290X, in the beginning it had no voltage control and people though it was crap for OC.

People have been saying wait for voltage control since June. At some point what you have is what you have.
