Skyrim uses 4 cores on mine and AFAIK, that's the norm.

There is also an ini tweak to make it use 8 cores, but some say that it can mess with mod scripts.

It may split a few threads onto more cores but it won't use them effectively at all.

CPU-Core.png

This proves very minor scaling past 3 cores at the time of this particular bench, even when CPU bottlenecked enough for faster cores to be a big performance increase.

Aside the firewall and a few other startup programs that run in background yes (no antivirus). So basically, it's just Skyrim. It uses 1 core in every module.

Thread Starter
i guess i should say i never got fps issues in gta, it was just that it would crash after 20-30 minutes no matter what i did. i was just saying all other games work well except that. also im only on 1080.

Doubtful.

It's rare to find a CPU having no impact at lower resolutions in particular. At 4K with higher settings, though, GPUs are often a bigger issue.

And then there's this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/3ho4iq/amds_fx_cpus_beat_intels_hex_octo_core_cpus_4k/

Overclocking with turbo enabled is probably a good idea for getting better performance in minimally-threaded apps like Skyrim.

That's a very interesting link you posted. One of the comments in that particular thread about the systems in comparison is the one mentioning DDR3 V DDR4, creates an unbalanced playing field in my opinion, so I think that could go some way to explain the differences in benchmarks scores between FX & i7's, even though they are talking about 4K gaming, the diff is only a few FPS anyway.

Well, considering its a single player game, I have no need for the net while playing and apart from the OS & thermal monitoring app, it predominately uses 3 cores on my system.
