EK is introducing special edition reservoir - EK-RES X4 250 - Page 4

Just got my reservoir in today and unfortunately, as was posted in one of the other threads, the top aluminum nut came scratched in various places.

This one being the worst, but luckily it was on the top ridge of the nut, so it is mostly hidden when installed:

Also the bottom portion of the glass seems to have nicks on the inside ridge, I don't believe it is going to be a problem as it is only on the inside:

Overall QC issues aside, this should look great in my S8S once I figure out where I want to mount this thing.

Whoa! Definitely contact the reseller/ekwb support team if you bought direct for some replacement parts.

Unfortunately doing an RMA with Performance-PCS will be more trouble than it is worth. It looks like it's just cosmetic issues so I'll just have to deal with it I guess.

PPCS isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. Just be calm, and don't really "demand" stuff or come off as arrogant and you'll be fine!

It's more of the fact that I would have to pay to ship it back to PPCS all the way in Florida in order to receive a replacement.

I'm lost. headscratch.gif

.

Not sure if you figured this out but these are the 2pin plugs you need. Unfortunately PPCs is out, but you could email to see if they have more stock coming in.

As for cables (wires?), you would just chop off the SATA connector (looks like the outermost cable is 12v and the innermost is GND). Then strip the ends and simply push them in into the plug (respectively, next sentence) then screw in the small flat-head screw underneath the plug. This is in the Aquaero manual, looking at the Aquaero head, like in your picture, on the right pin is pin 1 which is the 12v and the left pin is pin 2 which is the GND.

Or if you want to keep that intact, the cables are likely soldered on. Just unsolder and use your own wiring. I use 24AWG wire (or whatever is closest to me tongue.gif). For example, I have one of these mod/smart LED boards which is powering 8 LEDs in my blocks from one of the PWM plugs perfectly fine at 100%; then again these LEDs don't require much at all.

You would need more information regarding that LED strip to see if it is within the 1 AMP limitation of the ports. However, I really doubt it needs anywhere near an amp though as the 12" Darkside LED strips use 2.5w and I chanined two in another build off one port perfectly fine.

I will actually be doing this to the LED strip as soon as I purchase my reservoir, I love those PWM ports on the Aquaero.

Is there a guide or something in order to put the reservoir back together after adding the suction tube/led strip? The manual doesn't say anything about putting it back together and I'm having trouble getting my reservoir to not leak after.

Does the sealing gasket go with the aluminum nuts or do they slot into their respective top/bottom piece and then the tube gets pushed down into it?

Is the glass supposed to be pused flush against the top/bottom piece's inside edge? I can't seem to push it into the top/bottom piece so it bottoms out, there always seems to be a gap, especially getting the top piece back on.

You're the second person who ask this, @iBruce being the first.

Maybe @EK_tiborrr could tell us how to do it.

Sup akira? smile.gif

I have those same chips and nicks in my glass tube, not sure if that’s causing the leaks. My top and bottom aluminum retentions nuts have all the paint intact, but I’ve tried to reassemble the X4 about nine times and cannot figure out if the rounded gasket goes around the glass tube first or the rectangular flat gasket goes in first or second. No instructions how to reassemble the “lower watertight seal” after you place the LED strip in its proper position.

I did get to a point a few times where all looked good and was seating well so filled up with distilled water to leak test, for a couple hours all was well, then let stand overnight and woke up to a puddle of water on the floor, so yea I’m lost getting this thing back together.

The nicks and broken places in the glass edges don’t look very good but seem like they are below where the actual watertight seal is supposed to take place.

I got this new EK REVO plexi pump top to go with the X4, but if I can’t become confident in using the X4, guess I’ll use this white 140 X3 res in photo below, only had to buy the white res bottom today to complete the X3 white res since I had the top and tube, for a backup if confidence cannot be restored and all plans of using the new X4 fail.

Thanks EK, if you guys can figure out how to put the X4 back together, please let us know. thumb.gif

As you can see in this pic, I can’t even get the X4’s res top to reseat flat on the glass tube (after removing the bulky ring nut), the threaded plastic X3 res on the left may be the way I go with my S8S, the size difference between the two parts is substantial.

I might just wait until the X4 reservoir family matures and comes out with a slightly smaller glass tube 140mm or 150mm and a white accessory top, but still holding out hope for the X4, waiting on three parts (including the recalled EK 140mm ER fans) so I’ve got a couple months to work it all out before I complete the build. thumb.gif

Yes, thanks for all your help, I contacted The DukeMan at PPCS, he transfered the info to Hank and he is ordering those 2-pin plugs for the next AquaComputer shipment incoming, How many are on order? Not sure, but I asked for two just to have a backup. smile.gif
