Advice for this gaming rig pls ?

Thread Starter
My 6 yr old current rig is about done, so time for a new one. I received alot of help here way back then when putting it together, so asking again now.

My goal is primarily gaming, but leaving the option open for video editing and things along that line. But primarily gaming. Looking for 1440p 144mz for sure, and 60fps or close to it, for most current games and fps. Budget is $2k, can go over if need be. Wont be overclocking right away, but if its easy enough, I would like to try once everything is stable.

Here's what I have in mind so far :

Case - Corsair Graphite Series Black 780T (open to suggestions, want lots of fans) Dont want HAF932, been looking at one 6 yrs now
Cpu - i7 4790k (pretty firm)
Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Gpu - MSI GTX 980 Ti (pretty firm)
MB - MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (or something similar from them, gigabyte, etc)
PSU - Modular. 750w Im guessing ... open to suggestions. Antec, Corsair, etc. The EVGA G2 looks great
HD - need a 500gb SSD for main os/games. And a 1tb sata for storage. Was thinking a samsung EVO and a WD Black ?
Ram - 16gb G.Skill (maybe overkill but just want to get it and be done) DDR3 1866+ or whatever is good.
Monitor - really like the reviews for the Asus VG248QE. Is a high end $700 ROG/Gsync monitor worth it ?
Windows 7

All help is appreciated. Ty in advance smile.gif

Take a look at Phanteks cases instead of Corsair as they are way cheaper and just as good and often way overlooked.

You are aware that Skylake is out right? so that CPU/motherboard and RAM are older gen stuff.
If you want the newest you are looking at a 6xxx CPU a Z170 motherboard and DDR4 RAM.

As for the Cooler the 212 Evo is okey but its not all that great or super quiet.

For the GTX 980 Ti take a look here
Nvidia GTX 980 Ti comparison thread

You dont need 750 watts for that system if you are never going to have more then 1x video card or volt mod the BIOS on said video card.
A 550 watt could power that system if you are not going to add more video cards.

You dont need a WD black for simple storage the WD Green disks are more then good enough for that.i
I have had x5 WD Green disk over as many years and i have never had one fail or break and all of them are still going strong

As for the monitor take a look at the Asus MG279Q unless you want to spend money on the brand new Asus PG279Q which is NOT going to be cheap!
