With the exception of the few generations of i3s and Pentiums with HT. You're right on the desktop side.

Mobile is all over the place, my friend is like "But it has an i7 CPU!" when commenting on a laptop "That must mean it's got 8 threads, right?"

Well no... it actually had 2 threads and HT with a low core-clock.

Just pure marketing really, people want the "i7" because "it's the best", regardless of the fact that it's really just a mobile i3 with HT.

Considering how many times I switch or mess with my computers. I wonder how many times mine got counted. tongue.gif
But don't surprise me that most use lower end hardware. Not everyone cares to build a gaming rig or shell out the money for a high end gaming rig.
Hey, I know some peeps currently in my tech school who solely game on their laptops because they straight up don't give a crap about res, fps, etc. They just want to play video games for fun. thumb.gif

A person without a smartphone in 2015, I'm a bit surprised thinking.gif

Hehe, not the only one. I still use a dumb phone. Don't want the crazy bill a smart phone comes with. tongue.gif The internet bill is bad enough. (Don't even have cable TV either)

Actually I never took note of the early generation Intel Core series so I actually didn't know they had some HT i3. Just know I think since the Sandy Bridge gen they did it for desktop that all i5 below didn't have HT(?). Kind of happy they went with the easier convention.
As for their mobile side they should really do something about that.

There are Skylake i3s (i3-6300 and 6320) with HT as well. They never stopped. Their low end is not always very clear, but at least they seem to have gotten away from the Pentium named chips.

Edit: Geez, I guess they didn't - they still have Pentiums. It really is all about the Pentiums.

Agreed. When I upgraded my PC and threw down $4000 (Canadian) on my new PC, I knew I was getting a nice computer - but I didn't really clue in just how few people have high end PCs until I started asking around, doing some PC comparisons (rate my pc ) and looking at the steam survey. Lots of my friends are gaming at the 660 to 760 level. I probably should have waited for the 980 ti's to come out, but I got my two 980s lightly used at a significantly lower than market rate, so I'm happy about that.

edit:
the 970 is the second most popular card on steam. with intel in first place and third.
how... do you not know if you have a microphone?

This is just steam thought, in reality it's under 7% market share

Steam community only shows gaming marketshare, of course they left out the enterprises who have just moved from Windows XP to Windows 7. My parents are still on Windows 7 and they don't use steam.
