I didn't play that much of RE6 (only a few hours) but I felt the same way, although it was slightly less repetitive with all the different campaigns and protagonists.
Okay well let me ask you a few questions.
- Did you play Resident Evil 5 co-op with a friend?
- Did you find any of the game play to be fun, any of the boss fights, weapon upgrading, or looking for treasure?
- What didn't you like about the story that you loved so much about the previous games?
I loved the story, I always felt the story in Resident Evil for the most part was the natural progression of where the series would head. Some small scale events like raccoon city, but also some large scale events that anti-bio terrorism teams would have to take down. The banter between Chris and Wesker was great, the boss fights were extremely fun with 2 players, especially on the harder difficulty, and I found the treasure hunting and weapon upgrading to be extremely rewarding. Ultimately I do think the game depends on a little bit on a fun partner to play with, but at the same time experiencing a Resident Evil game with friends can be quite fun, and unique depending on the person you shared your experience with.
Also I never felt any of the RE games ever took themselves too seriously, it's basically always been nothing more than a B-horror movie story, Japanese style but Western influenced. To criticize 5 for being cliche and boring would really be to criticize all of them IMO.
That and I felt RE5 had a very good mix of different types of game plays, but I'm headed out the door so I don't want to get deep into all the different styles of play that are in RE5. I do agree 6 had MORE styles, I think that's one of RE6's biggest strengths, content and variety.
Also don't rule out Revelations 1 and 2 because of 5 and 6. They are all a bit different, you might like some of them.
On a side note, someone just modded the PC version of RE:Remake to use the original PS1 voice acting, and the results are quite hilarious.
Revelations, has some pretty scary moments too! The parts on the ship are pretty damn awesome!
Anyway, I love RE, new games included. I guess I'm a bit sad I'm alone here
Don't forget, even if you don't like the new ones, RE0 HD and RE2 HD are coming out still!Edited by DoomDash - 10/21/15 at 1:17pm
