Ordering question regarding the Mercury S8.

1.
I plan to get the Ventilated Top Cover, but do not plan to mount radiators in the top of the box. Is a Drop-in Mount required, or can I use the Ventilated Top Cover without a Drop-in Mount?

2
If, in the future, I decide to mount rads to the top, can I order Drop-in Mounts separately later?`

3.
For the Flex-Bay, starting from the bottom, I plan to have a 140mm fan, a 5.25" DVD Burner, a 140mm fan and a blank 5.25" cover plate. It looks like the 140.2 option has a double 140mm fan mount. Could I get two of the single 140mm fan mounts instead of the double?

4.
What mounting equipment comes with the 5.25" Flex-Bay option, and what comes with the single HDD cage that is provided.

1 (and 2). You don't *have* to get the drop-in mount as it is certainly available later but you would have to pay shipping again. It is highly recommended to just pick it up when you order. It is a seriously useful accessory if you ever plan to put radiators up top.

3. Yes, you can choose whatever flex bay accessories you want.

4. The HDD cage comes with enough screws and grommets to mount four HDDs but you would need adaptors if you wanted to fit SSDs in there instead. Remember that the stealth plate under the motherboard can fit a mixture of HDD and SSDs. The flexbay mounting kits may vary according to what you order - you can always check the Store or wait till a CaseLabs staff member has a chance to answer the question.

The single HDD cage comes with the hardware needed to mount four drives (special screws and rubber bushings). The Flex-Bay options include various radiator mounts. They come ready to use - you would supply the fans/radiators. Note that the 120.2 mount is capable of adding HDD expansion kits (4 drives each). The S8 can mount up to 4 SSD's on the stealth tray under the MB (in addition to adapters that can be used in the HDD cages).

Thank you for quick replies. Some follow-up questions if I may.

About the 'Drop-in with no mount' top chassis mount - why is it required for the Full Window Top Cover? Aesthetics?

SSD:
To mount an SSD in the included lower compartment HDD cage, I need to purchase a '2.5" HDD/SSD Mounting Kit, MAC-322'?

Flex Bay:
For the two split 140mm fans, I need to order two 'Flex-Bay 140.1 (140mm) Fan/Radiator Mount, MAC-499'?
These can be supplied by Case Labs in lieu of the default double 140.2 Fan/Radiator Mount listed on the selection page?

For a DVD mounted in the Flex Bay between the two 140mm fans, I need to purchase a 'Flex-Bay 5.25 Device Mount - Standard Anti-Vibration - MAC-126'?

The top 5.25" blanking cover is included?

EDIT: do I need to order a 120.2 (120mm) mounting bracket for the opening above the on/off switch?

For your last question, if you order the front left to have 2x120mm rather than Windowed, it is drilled for 120mm fans (and has a pair of 120mm square blanking plates by default). If you wanted anything else there you would have to get a 2x120mm radiator mount. It depends what you want there.

Thank you Daniel, exactly what I needed. +rep

  1. The drop-in style top chassis is a solid (one piece) frame with the center completely open - you need the structure but it's all hidden when the full windowed top is installed

  2. Yes you either need to get the MAC-322 or just mount your SSDs on the stealth tray under the MB.

  3. For ordering 2x 140.1 instead of the 140.2, you'll need to email CL directly before you order. I'm sure they can work things out - they're very good at that!

  4. The case comes with 2 sets of the standard mounts (MAC-125). Unless you want the anti-vibration ones for your DVD, I'm using the supplied ones without issues. thumb.gif

  5. If you order the 140 flexbay mount, I believe they preinstall to the front chassis and fill the remaining slots with vented covers. If you want solid instead of vented, you will have to request that.

I just got the MAC-322, it allows you to mount 2 SSDs ans takes up the space of a 3.5". Ordered because I was worried about heat - running water so I don't have a lot of air moving in the lower section.

I also got a set of short mounts (Mac-213) I used for my aquero, along with the 2 standard.
