Advantage of i7 6700k compared to i7 4790k ? - Page 3

it was probably designed for big corporations that buy thousands of pcs and save on every 10W saved and just run on mobo+cpu combo to perform boring everyday tasks but it also can overclock good just because it can. or just play silicon lottery and hope for 50x clock DC

Yeah but the same could be said for IB and Haswell given their biggest improvements were power efficiency rather than performance increases.

Plus K processors aren't exactly what corporations use.

And, Skylake is not as power-efficient as Broadwell either, yet they only released two Broadwell DT CPUs, sadly.

oh well then idk what was the reason behind 6700 and 5775.. but I'm sure as hell still biting my elbows from not going x99 way and getting 5820 with rampage mobo frown.gif

Then someone after me posted that there isn't a huge difference (which I assumed was in response to my mention of the iGPU, which in retrospect it may not be) since I thought it was rather obvious the actual CPU performance difference of Skylake was not that huge. So that's why I said the results he posted were with a Titan, and not the iGPU--which is what I was talking about. One thing that not many people may realise is that they did improve the iGPU a good bit--this seems like it's not immediately obvious.

In any event the bottom line is the difference is not that significant and for the vast majority of people I would say it's not worth it to go from a 4790K to a 6700K as an "upgrade". Other than a few things here and there and again the faster iGPU (which most people aren't going to use in an i7), there's not much there.

Fair enough and I agree - if one already has a 4790k (like me, I might add) upgrading to a 6700k isn't worth it unless one truly has cash to burn.
