Asus was better 5 years ago. Now AsRock is better, on AMD at least.

You base this statement on how many different ASUS and ASRock boards, and in what price segment exactly?

You are laughing because you assume I lack the experience? 6 AsRock boards, 4 Asus boards, price segment same as OP's.

EDIT: That is in the last 5 years only, and also AMD only.

EDIT: That is in the last 5 years only, and also AMD only.

Taking it a bit seriously?

Isn't the Turbo Boost speed for the 860K already 4GHz. Simple thing is too let it run 100% in Windows but that means you allow the hardware to choose its voltage settings.

4GHz on an 860K should not be a problem in any 4 Phase FM2+ mobo. I had a stable 4.7GHz on a F2A88XM-D3H but at a high 1.5V. Because of that I ran it on 4.5 and 4.3GHz normally. That said I had small heatsinks on my VRMs, a fan cooling the VRMs and an H100i cooling the CPU.

For now start from scratch. Turn off all power efficiency BIOS settings. Make sure your RAM is stable and error free. Next use a program like HWInfo to view your CPU temps and various voltages.

Around 4 Asrock and 3 Asus mobos * budget price range smile.gif
Asrock have digital VRM only in High end Mobos Asus in Any smile.gif

I´m not laughing, just wondering.
In what way you find the ASRock boards to be better than ASUS?

Thread Starter
Should I even worry about stress tests throttling CPU after about 5-10mins? I've been using AMD Overdrive to monitor temps and see that whenever the margins drop below 20c - the cores will begin occasionally dropping to 1.7GHz then back up again (they don't all drop at the same time, usually it's like one core that drops to 1.7GHz then goes back up to the set clock speed).

This even happens @ 3.9GHz.

Also, is it even possible to undervolt from the bios with my motherboard? I've tried to look in the BIOS and cannot see anything that would allow me to undervolt. CPU VCORE is present but it only gives me options to add volts it seems. I.e. can select Auto, Normal and then it starts at +0.000V (and can be increased in increments of 6).

Due to the above, I have to rely on AOD to lower volts. I've heard this software can mess things up but I don't really have a choice. :|

Hm... Thermal margin drops below at 20C at 3.9Ghz looks like to weak CPU cooler :/
Any way for OC on thisa mobo mount fan from CPU stock cooler to cool down Mobo VRM
Example on my Mobo I placed heat-sinks
Here how to easily mount Fan smile.gif * This one is from Stock cooler from old Socket A

The GA-F2A88X-UP4 is a top shelf FM2+ board as far as overclocking. I have an A88X-PRO and a Cossblade Ranger and it is just as good an overclocker as those two as far as I am concerned. The bio is its weak point but you can work with it.
