There's no reason to get a 9590. Get the cheapest 6 or 8 thread CPU or go Skylake.

Twin tower coolers are 'massive' in size for me and have yet to see small ones. That said a small one would not cool a high clocked Vishera 8 core.

When I think of people wanting to get 9590 I generally take it they want to run 5GHz somewhat safely. Otherwise why not get a cheaper 8 Core for 4.7GHz. Like you said it's fine at stock, but when OCed it gets 'touchy'. You even said its better for going water with a 9590.

I know perfectly well your accomplishment with cooling big clocked 8-cores with air. But I do not have the confidence in others to have the same ability. OCN has a good group of people who know the characteristics of the chips. Other sites and forums I look through know zip in general, especially toms...There are way more threads with people who asks if they can pair a 9590 with a mediocre motherboard or thin 120mm So I or a CM 212 than can I run it on twin tower heatsinks.

PS just to get things straight, I think water cooling and especially AiOs are expensive as he'll too (except for cooling GPUs)

I wasn't PO'd. That is one of my favorite sayings and every once in a while I forget that it isn't allowed here. redface.gif

The 9590 is spikey and water handles those spikes better than air. At least big water does. The 8xxx are smoother and depending on overall air flow do not need water cooling. Or maybe I just got lucky with my wind tunnel.

Probably both. I don't know much people I can say that can tame a high clocked Vishera with air.

It is all about air flow through the case, and most cases are poorly designed. It is essential that the hot air from the GPU be kept away from the CPU intake and most cases blow that hot air right up there.

Even a well designed case has its problems. When I upgraded from a 280X to a 290X the temps inside my case went up 7C and my OC is not so stable anymore. Still working on that............

groovy

That is a nice board.

yeah i know i am loving it it is a super nice board made with the highest quality of components. the cpu is pretty great too. but in hindsight i probably would have gone with the highest 8000 model instead of the ffx 9590 just because this sucker runs super hot, but my antec 950 AIO water cooler keeps it cool ut if i overclock any at all then it sounds like i have a vacuum cleaner on in my room because it puts it to work, but probably not since the 9590 was like 10 more bucks then the other 8000 series cpu.

That clock speed asks for a 360mm radiator minimum for Priming.
