But where does it say what you're saying will happen if Nvidia were to acquire RTG like it does for Intel & AMD in x86 ?
The USA government wouldn't allow it, there was a law i think, that doesn't allow a certain company to enforce a monopoly on the market they are taking when other companies are present.

Common sense bro, check out the AIB marketshare, it is dominated by 2 players, NVIDIA buying RTG would give NVIDIA an instant Monopoly, and that would fall under an Antitrust law:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_antitrust_law

Intel is NOT a player in the AIB market, only NVIDIA & AMD are, and therefore one cannot buy the other, the government would never allow it.

What kind of competition would we have if NVIDIA was the only player?

$1500 Titan X
$1000 980Ti
$500 960

Oh you don't like those prices? then buy from someone else, oh wait, there's NO one else.

This is why a lot of us are hard on AMD, and want them to get their act together, look at the mediocre ~5% advances we been getting from Intel.

After 6 gens, the mainstream is still stuck on 4 cores. We have phones with 8 cores now.

Competition drives innovation, and provides better prices for consumers.

Like I said, common sense

I almost threw up before you made the change. Thank lord for F5 biggrin.gif

I think I found what I was looking for:
Quote:
The primary suppliers of the GPUs (video chips or chipsets) used in video cards are AMD and Nvidia. In the third quarter of 2013, AMD had a 35.5% market share while Nvidia had a 64.5% market share,[16] according to Jon Peddie Research. In economics, this industry structure is termed a duopoly.

This is the same in another part of our life : war drives innovation for better weapon technology. After some years of boosting that technology, the military are releasing it for public use, just with different target in mind.

Some people mentioned Microsoft but I hope, if AMD does get bought out, that it is Samsung that does it. Seems like monthly there's one good news and two bad news for AMD.
