It was in relation to earlier posts that Valve were selfish for not making it and the suggestion they couldn't do it as they were exploring other ideas. I was simply pointing out that if there was any sort of desire to fulfill the wishes of their biggest fans (and let's not forget what made Steam so popular) then they could.
It wasn't a suggestion that they couldn't but more of that they have no interest, but I see where your coming from. The closest thing we have to go off of is the news from earlier this year which implies that no one is interested at Valve. With all the hype surrounding it I honestly don't blame them. I think at this point that anything they do will live not up to everyone's expectations. For me, I would be happy with the same engine, same graphics, same everything if they would just finish the damn story.

During an interview with Geoff Keighley in a one-off podcast called GameSlice (via Polygon), Newell was asked whether or not fans will ever see a proper Half-Life 3. Newell replied: "The only reason we'd go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why [they did]."
