It's fine, It's not the first time I put them on the carpet. smile.gif

I just don't feel like draining a loop every 6 months(Which is the only reason I went with AIO). Plus you need to clean out the tubing and blocks. I like my PC to be maintenance free. If it wasn't for all the maintenance I would have went with water.

I do maintenance once a year, not every 6 months. I guess you could say I live dangerously as well?

TCO has a valid point - It's actually not fine at all.

Majority of people who do not have an extensive electronics background do not realise that static electricity can not only damage components instantly but more often than not the static degrades components rather than totally damaging them right there and then.

What this means for the end user is that they 'think' that there is no damage done as the item still works at that point in time, however due to the static degradation damage the item has become much less reliable and much more prone to electronic component failure some time down the track.

If one of your drives fails in a year or two due to this static degradation damage users do not attribute it to the fact that they were careless with static handling protocols when installing their hardware, they just assume the item has just failed due to other causes.

I cringe a lot when witnessing poor static control not only in forums and the like but even in many computer stores.

I have yet to have any PC part get damaged by placing them on carpet. With current weather it's very unlikely of static shock.

Ran into a major hiccup. My motherboard was dead on arrival. I have returned it for new motherboard which should be here in a few days.

This is the motherboard I'm going with now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130878

I had nothing but problems with Asus products as of late(Minus their Network hardware).

This is exactly what I was referring to earlier in regards to possible static damage. Was a product defective out of the box or did the user inadvertently damage it due to poor handling practices....?

The average user cannot prove it one way or the other unless the correct precautions are utilised when handling these components.

Motherboard was never placed on carpet. I built my motherboard on a tile floor. It was pretty much DOA on arrival. This is the second Rampage V board that did this in the past 5 months. I'm not going with another Asus board.
