He's under NDA about that too rolleyes.gif

It's funny how now his predictions weren't ever predictions at all, and he's been on the inside the whole time. rolleyes.gif

And this dude says he's impartial and unbiased... It seems it's his job to taint Nvidia's image

Dont have to work for a relevant company to be under NDA. I am sure I am under some NDAs as well but I am not in the industry.

All it means is that you are told something or saw something you aren't to discuss.

The only odd thing I have noticed is my 16000 fire strike score has dropped from faster/betterer than 97% in Jan to 75% now. I guess that means some body has been selling a lot of cards that have a lot more gittix than a 290. Or, It maybe means that a whole lot more intel CPUs were sold. A 290 score is about same as crossfired 285s. Plus my total score is crippled by using a AMD CPU.

I wonder if I SLI my olde lady's GTX 690 if could do good enough ?

Nvidia showed async performance and... the 9xx support it with drivers help. They even showed how better it was with nvidia than AMD.
Also... the 970 has 4GB. It performs as it should be. No issues there. The only ones having issues, are the ones trying to make it up.
Titan X performs better in 4K. That is the goal of the card. Not to replace a 400$ card.

Seems like the 960 2GB is still good for 1080p compared to the 4GB and the 380, long live the $100 1080p king.

The GTX980 is overpriced not the GTX 980 Ti. The Ti is the best card for $650.

The GTX 980 will be slower than an R9 390x under DX12 scenarios and even most newer DX11 titles.

As for the NDA I'm under, it's based on agreements not to disclose information. I haven't signed anything. wink.gif

I keep my agreements. Lets just say that Maxwell 2 missed out on Async Compute support, under DX12, because of a hardware oversight error. Maxwell 2 does support Async compute under CUDA through HyperQ.

I mentioned this in the Async thread. There are ways around the problem but none of them are great solutions.

One way is for developers to code for CUDA rather than DX12, like they do for PhysX, the other is by using a compiler in the driver which intercepts DX12 Async loads and processes them through HyperQ. The former would be time consuming for developers, the latter will actually incur a hefty, and I mean hefty, amount of CPU overhead which will hurt performance rather than boost it.

I have all of the details but can't disclose them. I won't need to disclose them anyway because it will be out in the media soonish.

Maxwell 2 doesn't process concurrent workloads in separate queues under DX12. Everything is thrown into the Graphics queue. Maxwell 2 also incurs a hefty performance penalty if workloads of two different contexts are processed in the same Graphics queue (contexts meaning Copy, Graphics, Compute).

GCN uses three concurrent queues, Graphics, Compute and Copy queues. You can mix and match contexts because a context switch only takes a single cycle.

People who bring up Arkham Knight, as an example of Maxwell 2 performing Async compute, are right but the kicker is that the D3D portion of the code is not processed asynchronously. The CUDA, see HyperQ, part of the code is.

That's the issue. All due to a hardware technicality error in Maxwell 2.

Everything you said is already known even before you said it.
There is no need for speculating or "NDA I can't tell you but I will tell you what I can't tell you".

The async is not fully in the maxwell hardware (technical error or not, I'm not so sure). There are a few APIs which activate the async computation which is part of the DX12 API. It doesn't require specific coding.
While AMD can straight on push the requests to the GPU with full hardware support, Nvidia has to run it through the drivers more, which means async will be handled through drivers under software to break it down into the 31 nodes available.

It is already known that it will cost CPU. I doubt it will be "hefty" as you make it sound (most likely depends on the amount of calls). How much and how bad it will be compared to AMD, well, the latest drivers showed a good increase in performance over AMD when the async drivers for nvidia are almost complete.

You are making it sound like it is dead in the water already, but if nvidia cards will perform in the right bracket in terms of price and performance compared to AMD in the DX12 games, I don't see an issue with it.
