[PCGH] GPU performance index 2015: 16 Radeon and Geforce models in benchmark comparison - Page 10

Raw GPU power isn't the only metric is it? Look at the whole picture, what settings can you use in games and keep playable fps with the above discussion. How many games will have issues on a single gpu over two in Cf/SLI? Everyone seems to be arguing a single valid point in a sea of points. It really has more to do with the person and what they feel is right for them.

Me personally, i would be okay with 2 cards in sli/cf but most don.t Some people overclock, most don't. Some people play a specific game only or most of the time, others play everything. What resolution will you game at, are you a graphics fidelity fanatic or FPS freak. Does noise bother you, does heat bother you.

Point is there are too many variables to argue whats best and whats not. Seems like when people are debating a point if it doesn't fit the narrative then they try to throw in monkey wrenches.

Do you know how long sli and crossfire have been along?

If there is a problem, it is because of the race to release to the majority of consumers first. Therefor because DirectX does not mandate multi-gpu compatibility, sometimes you have to wait. Big deal? I still haven't figured out how an overclocked 980 Ti is going to match two 390 vanilla's at stock clocks. Besides, oh, the driver was inefficient. I'm purchasing hardware dummy. Leave software for thay tpoic.

It is going to come very close but 390s can OC too.

Software isn't off topic when your talking games. "When will a 980ti match 2x 390's?" Example: The Witcher 3, crossfire wasn't working for quite a long time. The 980ti would win. If your talking only 3dmark Firestrike then i don't know. it really isn't an apples to apples comparison. You can find ways to dispute or confirm whats faster.

I've been using SLI since GTX 295, and Crossfire since 57770. I was heavily biased for nvidia for quite some time. Times have changed, but not multi gpu issues.

I've been reading articles about graphic cards since the geforce ti 4600 and later the radeon 9700 lol

There will be people who have looked even further back. I've been using computers my entire life. Nothing surprises me.

One game only is not going to stop my purchase. One game only will never make my purchase. PC has 1000's of games. Very few of them are going to make a difference between a 980 ti or xfire 390's. Very few.

What I am looking at is 4k hardware. Just because 8GB doesn't mean much now doesn't mean it won't later. Look at what happened to the 5870, the 670, etc.

390 and 390 CF is a great value no doubt, 4k does require some beef and 980ti alone probably isn't going to cut it for anyone wanting a decent frame rate. It may be the best value for performance option to run 2x390's for 4k. There are many who refuse to run dual gpus and are sticking with 1440/1080 for that reason alone. At any rate, i don't get scared from using multi gpu solutions especially at 4k and above resolutions as its pretty much required for now. On the SLI/Cf usage for me personally i was referring to when i stepped into Nvidia's SLI and ATI's CF. I actually used to have voodoo2 pci SLI back beyond that, i wasn't saying i started gaming @ gtx 295 days. I just figured since 3dfx is no longer around it would have been pointless to bring it up and i didn't want to show my age redface.gif.

Very happy to see my 290x looking good at 1440p. I won't be upgrading the GPU or monitor for years.

I have no idea why have you so confidently decided that his 980 TI will absolutely 100% die, apparently in the next 5 minutes.
My two 980 Tis are running at 1430mhz boosted without any issues what so ever. No artifacts, no crashes, not driver issues. Zero. And they are reference design. A good aftermarket design 980 TI, will easily get to 1500mhz.

Besides, a single 980 TI will give you less performance, but it will also cost less. Also take less power.

Since I only have a 4790K and two 980 Tis on a low cost motherboard and memory, and I get 8400+ score in ultra in my every day OC, I actually get better scores and it cost me a hell of a lot less than a 5960X with two 390x. So... again... your point is?
I just walked all over that 390x crossfire score like it was a damn roadkill.

I just played the ironic defence. Don't get riled so much, or else I get infractions due to your Westerner Correspondence Bias. Trust me, I know better not to fall into these zero-sum games(I'm Easterner, remember?). I mean I hope you at least know better than one-upping the next man or else fortune save me from those with no situational read.
