Mini ITX CPU Cooler - Page 4

Yeah it's probably way easier if you have to deal with a return for some odd reason too that way. The silent pc review has a pretty good review of what you can expect noise and performance wise too. It's actually one of the articles I used when determining if I wanted the Scythe. Best wishes on a smooth build! thumb.gif

Here is Z170I Pro Gaming with AXP-100. First give best clearance.

Wow! That's amazing, I really appreciate your effort! A few questions for you. If I were to use the first orientation, do I have a bit of clearance before the first DIMM slot so the cooler won't make any contact with the ram? Also, in this first orientation, will I be able to stick my hand under the cooler to plug in the 4 pin CPU fan as it is under the cooler (the 4 pin header is in the top right, you can see it in image #2)? Finally, if I were to use option #3 where one of the DIMM slots is covered, how much space do I have under the heat sink? I'm wondering if my low profile ram will be able to fit under the heatsink. Thanks so much mate.

One last thing, where did you say I can buy it for $49.95 shipped?

Look at the first pic,. You can see a gap between the RAM socket and the edge of heatpipes. The AXP-100 is 47mm from center of CPU to outer edge of pipes. The near side of RAM socket is at least 49mm from center of CPU.

I doubt you can reach under the cooler to plug in the fan. Plug it in before mounting cooler. biggrin.gif

The distance from mobo to top of CPU is 8mm.
The RAM sockets raise the RAM 3mm.
Add 4mm to the distance from top of CPU to bottom of cooler and that is the height of RAM that will fit. with 1mm clearance.

So, it looks like orientation one is my best bet since my ram is 31mm high. Thanks so much again biggrin.gif

Btw, what's the main difference between the Muscle and regular AXP-100? I'm looking at thermalright's webpage and the muscle appears to be 2 mm shorter in length as well as 14 grams lighter. Are there performance differences between them?

AXP-100 Muscle has black and white fan and no caps on ends of heatpipes. No backing plate mount.

AXP-100 thru motherboard mounting kit, an extra mounting plate with 120mm fan hole spacing, LGA2011 mounting barrel studs, set of long screws for mounting 25mm thick 120mm fans, small tube of TIM instead of just a little packet, .. think that's it.

Same cooling ability in both.

Excellent thanks! It's fine that the muscle doesn't have a backplate? I've read that the backplate is optional on the normal AXP-100. One of my family members is going to the US next week to visit some relatives for the weekend so I'm thinking of ordering it from amazon now biggrin.gif

I don't think the backing plate makes any difference with such a small light cooler, especially on a quality motherboard.

Here is AXP-100 and AXP-100 Muscle drawings.. I do not have a Muscle (cooler that is) and the Muscle drawing does not show the fan mounting brackets, but pictures on Thermalright sit of Muscle do .. and that is what the TY-14013 fan mounts onto, so I suspect the drawing is wrong in that respect but not sure .. but it makes little difference in actual use anyway.
