Just call me Marty McFly, i've seen the future!

Thread Starter
I built my first computer an extremely long time ago. It was a P4 2.6mhz with 1gb ddr2 ram. Were talking back in the day when rocking the Nvidia 6600 GT via AGP was cool. I had the loudest case fans, an ugly color scheme and no cable management what so ever. All i did with it was sit on IRC and game Soldier Of Fortune 2 Double Helix Gold Edition Multiplayer....(say that title 5 times fast)

I decided it was time to build a new rig. A few months ago i buckled down, putting numerous hours of research into new components and hardware. You would have thought i was studying for a life or death test with as many hours i put in. Within the first few hours of this journey, i felt completely lost! I was seeing terms like M.2, realized just how big the Corsair 900d was and saw the insanely amount of ram inside new GPUs the size of my forearm! I was thinking, no wonder they now have such big cases, they need room for these long GPUs! I then read about micro atx...talk about confusing for a little bit when you have no clue what it is. I imagine i felt somewhat like Marty McFly did in back to the future 2.

Like many of you, i think it would be cool to wake up decades later to see future technology. After all of this, no thanks i'm good, i got my fix. It's amazing how fast technology truly does move.

I decided on the following build.

5820k
MSI X99A sli plus
Super Luce 16gb 3000mhz (liked the glow)
Gigabyte G1 GTX 970
Samsung 850 evo SSD 500gb
M.2 boot drive (still undecided, considering Samsung M951)
Rosewell phantom 1200watt psu
and of course...the Corsair 900d

Frys electronics has the MSI X99S gaming 7 for $122 dollars with a $30 dollar rebate making the board $92 until the 17th. I'm gonna pick it up tomorrow so might use this board.

Now my biggest task...water cooling. I'm so sick of doing research, i can't make up my mind and need help. Thanks to the RULES....i have to post those questions in the "water cooling section". The rules should change, as a new user and first time post, asking a few questions here would draw people to the new members area, and HELP people like me right away. I'm to burned out to even create a new thread to ask...bah

Must frustration,
Marty... biggrin.gif

Typical questions must be asked.

What resolution do you plan to play at?
What's your budget?
Is this purely for gaming or any rendering programs involved?

EDIT: Also, i've been away for a bit. But welcome to Overclock. We hope you enjoy your stay and that your wallet will forever hate you.

I plan to use 1440p. To each their own, but until hardware advanced to the point i can run 4k on ultra quality with 2xSLI i'll hold off. The cost of these new GPUs isn't worth the benefit at this time. But again, to each their own.

My budget to finish up is about 1500. I waited so long to pick the hardware that i saved in the mean time. I would like a 480 bottom, and 360 top with possibly push pull if the benefit out weights cost. Also, i need help with fans given the type of rad i get. If the rad is thicker like the EK, i might need a higher RPM fan. I was also considering the EKWD v3. Regardless, i guess i'm not sure which rads to go with and the fans to match. All i know is i'm looking for the best performance as far as cooling and would like it fairly silent. I understand all manufactors can be prone to failure with leaks, but if i drop money right now i want it to be here to atleast try and protect the components since the computer will be on while i'm at work so i can RDP into it via VPN.

I'm going with rigid tubing, i watched tons of videos on bending and plan to practice using 1/2" x 3/4. In the future i'll grab another GTX 970 and run 2xSLI cooling just 3 components. Still debating on coolant colors, im thinking slimer green or what i like to call the milk look.

I'll be gaming and "attempting" to learn video editing. Honestly, i got the 5820k for 300 bucks from micro center a while back. With DDR4 prices coming down, and getting this new motherboard for 92 bucks...i figured why not build off the haswell-e. I know it's over kill, but i've always wanted to build a nice PC. Now since this build is on it's way, my bartop arcade has to wait mad.gif

Does the 1500 include the parts(CPU/Mobo) you bought and water cooling parts or just the other components for the tower?
