Hey all,

My asus mobo on my machine isnt stable anymore. it runs an athlon II x4 635.

Im replacing it with an Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 and an fx-8350. How does this mobo overclock with stock cpu cooling?

Well don't know about the mobo but I have a 8350 @ 5.0ghz. don't use the stock cooler. its very noisy and dosent cool very well at all. So I would advise you to buy another cooler. Before I had watercooling I had a coolermaster 412s

Um well I had a coolermaster 412 slim and it kept it at 4.2 in the 60s or you could get a coolermaster 212 but depeneds how much want too spend. thumb.gif

A 212 will get an 8350 to around 4.5 ghz. A good twin tower will get it to 4.8 or more depending on lots of other factors. With a custom water loop 5 ghz might be possible.

Unless you have an epic chip and live on the South Pole you should get a quality cooler. Anything less than a Phanteks PH-TC14PE, NH-D14/15, SB-E is inadequate for these chips as they run hot.

I wouldn't go with less than this:

http://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-True-Spirit-140-Power/dp/B00IYEEOMO

VRM cooling is also critical so make sure you monitor it with software and have fan on the VRM sink.

I hate to rain on your parade, but that motherboard won't go far away. It's 4+1 phase, uses D-Pak (old tech that heats more) mosfets and has no VRM heatsink and uses 4 pin auxiliary connector for CPU power. All this screams "not an overclocker's" motherboard. So the motherboard will stop you first.

Hey, I was going to post "this" but thought maybe it was too cheesy. Now I feel too slow...
