No it isn't. That would be like saying that drawing on a napkin is the essence of constructing a building. It's a banal piece of the basic concept. thumb.gif

Just sayin'.

That's a faulty analogy. A dyson sphere is simply a megastructure that surrounds a star for the purpose of harnessing its enegry output.

Don't convolute simple concepts. There's no need for that.

I'm hoping for something more exotic but I don't think it's the Vulcans.

I didn't think I was. The Dyson sphere mega-structure construct requires concepts far beyond solar panels. Harnessing gravity(fundamentally) to tether the structure to the stellar mass as it traverses space as well as maintains a gravitational hold on the interior surface preventing the collapse inward, collects coronal mass as well as photonic energies emitted, and all of the other suggested and unknown forces. Discounting the normal body interference in the spheres plane. (Comets, asteroids, other)

There is a reason Freeman didn't like having his name attached to the concept. It is immensely complex. I vote outside our comprehension.

  • Alient life.

Even if it were Alien life, and extremely advanced civilization, they (Our Governments) wouldn't tell us. Something like that would send a number of people off the deep end.

EDIT:

You could also bet your sweet cheeks that the Government has probably already "suggested" to the various groups involved the above, and how "bad" it would be.

Think of it this way, there are several variants of the dyson sphere. All of which do the same thing: harness the power output from a sun. It doesn't matter that there's gravitational shifts which need to be corrected so the dyson sphere doesn't end up colliding with the sun or the enormity of the scale which is well beyond what we as a species are capable of. In essence, it's a bunch of solar panels hooked together with a construct to achieve a singular goal. Adding in more variables just convolutes the basic intention which is all that's really needed for this conversation.

Would you bring up string theory in a conversation about the bare bones basics of quantum mechanics? Probably not so why bring in the engineering factors of a dyson sphere that don't matter within context of the thread? You're not wrong about what you're saying. You're just adding complexities that don't need to be covered at this juncture.

That means that in a few years when more updated light comes from there, we won't see the star?
