[EG] Nintendo now handing out NX console developer kits - report - Page 16

Launching a console now would result in a gamecube like result or worse. Nintendo has to go back to the drawing board because the Wii was kind of a fluke as far as home consoles go. The wii U was Nintendo's attempt to double dip with the casual crowd, but most of the casual crowd after the initial fad, let their wii's collect dust. The wii had an awesome start, but ran out of stream very quickly. In addition, too many young people are distracted with ipads to bother with Nintendo.

Nintendo has forsaken third party and the hardcore, so restoring faith in this market is crucial. However, I feel this market is lost for Nintendo because due to their budget nature, Nintendo is more likely to go with something at around ps4 or xbox one level than a truly new generation. What this means, by the time they launch, those consoles would have been on the market 3 year and In an industry where time to market is everything, it's a recipe for disaster.

tajoh111, you call 95 million sold by the time the Wii-u launched and 101 million now, running out of steam quickly? thumb.gif

Wii-U failed for 4 reasons, "1" under-powered "2" over-priced thanks to tablet add-on "3" 3rd partys didnt want to touch it because it was under-powered and over-priced "4" name confusion, i have heard MANY people say they thought the Wi-U was a add-on for the Wii thumb.gif

I haven't talked to a lot of people offline about it, but if what you say is true there's going to be a ton of people waiting for the NX.
Given that the Wii-U was a failure from the start even without the confusion, this almost sounds like the ideal situation.

Knowing Nintendo, this will be a 28 nm part... rolleyes.gif

I'd only be impressed if it had Zen cores near 2GHz with a monster GPU section...

Since it's an AMD APU... like 99.9% sure, it will feature hUMA that''s sort of in the PS4 and X1.

It needs GDDR5 or GDDR5X or HBM... for unified memory pool like the PS4.

HBM with hUMA APU... devil.gif

well i know someone at Gamestop corporate and they heard from their managers, people were confused thinking was a Wii add-on, also i forget where i saw it but Nintendo paid for a company to look into why the Wii-u was not selling, and research group told them biggest reason was the name thumb.gif

I hear that a lot too, I just can't think people are that dumb when plopping down hundreds of dollars on something.

It's Nintendo. It not going do have high end hardware. Wii U came out in 2012 and had a 5 years old GPU.

I still have no idea how they messed up the whole "what is it" nonsense.
Even at E3 till people saw it there were ideas floating around it was just a controller and of course for the people not following the industry they won't hear the true story.
It's the same Microsoft is in now, go ask a random person and they still think the xbone is as it was when first announced with all the spying/no used games/always internet requirements.

try and remember that they still have 4 state of the art-ish consoles to two underpowered ones overall. the CEO in their ultra casual, underpowered era is now dead (R.I.P.) so it's erroneuos to assume every nintendo hardware will be this far behind the times like Wii and WiiU. otherwise what's the point of the NX? to be a WiiU with a normal controller?
