[EG] Nintendo now handing out NX console developer kits - report - Page 7

Thing about Nintendo though is they never really tried to be the best copy paste system. Every system they come out with is new, they try something new, they don't just rinse and repeat like sony and xbox do, same system same everything just updated hardware every release. Every Nintendo, they try to do something different to see what works. They nailed it with the Wii and shortly after that, Sony and MS were trying the same thing. I'm sure Nintendo will continue to do this, they need another win but at the same time, I love seeing what crazy looking systems they'll have come out. Wii U was cool, the whole concept behind it, it just failed cause no developers wanted to play with it.

I will continue to have my setup of Nintendo + PC for as long as Nintendo makes consoles. I guess I can't just can't be impressed with what xbone and ps4 call "next gen power" so why would I buy into that when most games are multi platform. Forza is literally the only reason I want an xbone, but that's it. Just like the 360 I use still for Forza 4.

I feel the same way about the Sony exclusives. It's usually been Sony + PC = Win for me.

The PS4 is absolutely silly when it's about "remasters"

I had both PS4 and Wii U, not being biased but the Wii U isn't filling me with confidence for the NX since it doesn't have any staying power (which means less of those AAA titles over its life). Ultimately I sold both of my systems, but I really want a PS4 again since I know even if it doesn't have all the exclusive AAA titles now, it will eventually.

On that note, I still want a Wii U too, but I'll wait till they are dirt cheap at this point since there isn't much incentive to get one yet. Certainly won't be rushing out to get an NX after the Wii failure U though.

Well they want to hit for something new hopping it will sell and they are the only one with the idea. Wii U did not. Wii did.

GameCube was a good console, with some great games. I loved a lot of them.

But the Console itself was a failure, in terms of sales it made the original xbox look good.

Other than the fact that the Gamecube controller had its flaws, no left z button and no analog stick buttons. Along with the fact that the system used small DVDs, pretty much killing the console from getting multi-plat games. As well as no online system, and decided to follow sony in the use of memory cards. The System was still able to create a pretty cool game experience.

The Games are what made the Gamecube a great console to own, but the console itself was flawed. Lacking from many of the same problems that kept the N64 down. It had more power than the PS2, but with no full size DVD drive that meant nothing.

Ahem.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_million-selling_game_consoles

The Xbox sold a whopping 24-25 million units (no exact numbers are available).
The Gamecube sold 21.74 million units.

No left Z button? The Xbox didn't have any.
The Gamecube had a modem, and online games (just not Halo).
I'll admit, the mini-disk thing was a terrible idea, but...

At the time, the idea of launching a system with a modem and hard drive was absolutely not an option for anyone but Microsoft. Why?

http://www.neowin.net/news/report-microsofts-xbox-division-has-lost-nearly-3-billion-in-10-years

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/xbox-one-has-raked-400-million-loss-microsoft-8-months-1460471

Because the entire Xbox division is, to this day, basically a marketing expense. Why on earth would anyone continue to dump money into a product that after 14 years has yet to actually produce returns?

The Xbox division under any other name would be a bigger failure than all other failed videogame consoles combined.

If Nintendo comes out with a hybrid. But say uses a new type of sd card as game cartridges. That you can use on the console as well as the handheld that comes with the console. Like a small version of the wii u gamepad that way you can take it anywhere and play it. And then they don't need to make two same games for a console and handheld anymore. Plus they have some room to make there mobile and tablets games. And we might be able to play pokemon for the first time on console.

I personally don't agree. Graphics aren't everything. They need the GAMES first and foremost. If they rely on the typical Nintendo franchises it will be another console that fails imo. It REALLY needs 3rd party support. It needs more games. Relying on the Mario, the Zelda and the like just isnt going to be enough.

They tried that with the WII U remember. But since 3rd party software just aint popular on the nintendo consoles it didn't sell as well. Then the publishers backed off with the promise "they will return once the wii u will be more popular" which never really happened and it was a spiral to the same old Nintendo only franchises.

No, what Nintendo needs to do to make this a success is having a good launch so it sells a lot really fast, then they can wonder about 3rd party software. Just imagine the amount of sales if it launches with a Mario or a Zelda.
Absolutely, it's mostly about the games not the graphics. I think it would help if Nintendo were willing to loosen their grip on their IPs (most of which have huge potential).

I think part of the issue was down to just how badly the console sold. I mean when your console is CHEAPER, out for a YEAR longer and STILL gets outsold in 24hours it really says something to devs. Why make games for a console that just isnt selling. That being - dont waste money making games for a console that isn't selling. Nintendo need to drop this obsession with gimmicks and just go for a proper console, no crappy motion games, no giant ass controller. Just a great console.

Maybe Zelda but Mario? Nah. I don't see it, Mario is SO over done. SO over used. Just having a Mario game wouldnt be enough. Maybe another Mario Galaxies but other than that? I just dont see what kinda Mario game would make the console a huge console seller, unless they do an insane price on it.
