HA! Better Business Bureau. Good one. You do realize that you can bribe your way to a good review, right? As for legal action, well, it's a bit iffy. The best chance you've got is false advertisement, but is a statement like that really considered advertising? If it were part of a marketing campaign, sure, I'd be more than happy to donate a pitchfork. But as it stands I'm not sure how much of a case exists.

The solution isnt to boycott or even attempt to shame the companies, companies come and go, need to identify the exec(s) responsible for this.

Out the execs that push these nickel and dime payment strategies and actively boycott those games and inform gamers of how said exec has "monetized" games in the past. Turn these guys into industry pariahs, that's how you stop "companies" from pursuing this "strategy".

The branch of the BBB was expelled that was responsible for the buying ratings scandal.

Sounds like any other sweep under the rug operation to me.

Upper management blames middle management and gets rid of them, easily replaceable.

Seen it happen so many times I get more surprises out of my kdrama.

Game is one big DLC already. Microtransactions are just icing on the cake.

I own the game but stopped messing with it about 20 dlc ago.

Eh to be honest that doesn't tell the whole story (as is usual with games that have a lot of DLC lol). Most of that DLC isn't needed, as you can still play any heist DLC (Hotline Miami, Alesso Heist, etc) if the host has the DLC - you just don't get the weapons or achievements or masks. As to the other DLC, it's music, characters, and special weapons, none of which are needed. Also several of those (as the page shows) have been free. The game is also going to be supported till 2017, and they've been pushing out patches pretty much monthly as well as hosting things like Crimefest that give big updates (on aggregate) to the game as a whole, lots of which are free. It's not often that a game does get that kind of support from a smaller studio. You don't need all of that DLC to have a great time with the game, and there's a lot of the content available to you if you choose not to get it.

Okay. So. The more I look into this, the more it seems like a big joke by Overkill. Some sort of viral marketing stunt. Outrage sells, after all.

And what makes me think this?

1)I haven't gotten a safe drop after playing for a while today and yesterday. Apparently nobody else has gotten any safe drops, except for the one after the very first heist completed after the update. It's possible that these are here to stay and there's a time limit, etc. etc., but there's other reasons too.

2) They added a new heist today that involves looting a bunch of safes - same models used on the purchased ones too, best I can tell.

3) Said mission also came with achievements. I got one called "400 Bucks" after accidentally shooting a hobo (not my fault, cops threw smoke 'nades and he ran in front of my bullets!) and picking up his knife. "I may be homeless, but at least I have a sick knife!" They took a crack at Counter-Strike!

I really don't know what to make of this, but "elaborate practical joke" seems like a possibility.

Not really surprised. They're liars. I still remember when they lied to people who brought Payday 2 will get safehouse, this and that, blah blah blah, at launch. They lied. People starting to complain and then one of the dev came out just to complain and blame everything that happened to their customer and their own community. But too bad most people just doesn't care when they got lied to their face, some even came out and protect the liar and because of that they think they can get away with it just like EA, Ubisoft and many others did. Guess what? They lied again. LOL.

Don't trust any game company, with trust comes the risk of being betrayed and most of the time they will betray you. Just like CDPR the savior of some PC gamers that lied to your face with "the game not downgraded" until the last minute before the game launch.

The topic you linked, wow. Just wow is all I got. Always the best thing to do, blame your paying customers. That'll teach them!

I've played Payday 98 minutes according to steam and will never waste my SSD space for it again.
