explorer.exe keeps crashing

Thread Starter
Hello everyone how's it going?
So I've been struggling with this problem for like a week now, explorer.exe randomly spikes up in memory usage from its normal usage then stops working. Sometimes even another explorer.exe ( and sometimes this additional explorer.exe has no description on task manager ) is spawned and I can't end the process.
I've tried scanning for viruses/malware and updating the drivers.
Would greatly appreciate any ideas.
Thanks.
EDIT : Just happened again ( seems to happen everytime I copy something onto a USB drive ) and then it gave me 2 explorer.exe's for like a minute. Whenever I right clicked the 2nd one and clicked properties it gave me the properties of the " system32 " folder, not explorer.exe. Also I couldn't end the process, gave me an error.
EDIT2 : Also I believe that explorer.exe gradually increases its memory usage even if I'm not using the computer/not taxing it much. Is this normal?
EDIT3 : This problem is driving me nuts, I really need to copy some files onto a USB drive but can't because explorer.exe keeps crashing. Can anyone suggest a 3rd party ( preferably free/has a trial version ) copy software until I sort out this crash problem?

Can you hit F8 at the end of POST and get in to safe mode? That may help. If you can get your hands on any Linux CD/DVD/USB then it should be more than capable of transferring files from your drive to another location.
