Cooler Master Xornet II *Review - Page 9

Quick review of the Xornet II:

Disclaimer: I do not have all those fancy tools at my disposal to messure real cpi, or max tracking speed. Someone with those has to test this thing in that regard.

Build quality
I must say it is very very good. Nothing rattles. Buttons are crisp etc. The only downside would be the thumb buttons: They are quite hard to click. Maybe they soften up a bit. But looking at the price point CM is selling this thing at...wow. I mean the build quality out of the box is up there with the Mionix Caster and that mouse coste more than double!

Sensor
I play at 1000cpi and use a ingame sens of 24cn/360° in QL. I tried some really fast swipes and could not make this thing skip or malfunction. Take that with a grain of salt though as I cannot tell you the max speed I personally hit ingame. See disclaimer. I would say that the performance of this is close to a good implementation of a 3090. At least for the low to moderate (read: normal) cpi steps. As the OP mentioned in his test the Xornet II failed pretty badly at 3500 cpi. I don't use those steps anyway though.

I can confirm that the LOD setting in the software (alternatively you can change it by holding down the cpi-down button for some seconds) is not just for show. Out of the box the LOD is around 3mm. I set it from "high" down to "middle" and now its around 1,5-2mm. Thats fine for me. I don't get any jitter with this @500/1000 cpi using 1000hz on my Zowie GTF X.

1000hz is as "stable" as with any mouse I've had. Meaning: there is some deviation -/+.

There might be some very minor acceleration but nothing bad. Maybe CM can fix this with firmware. Interestingly they released Firmware Version 0.57 on monday but the flash tool tells me my mouse runs version 1.00 already. So I won't flash that for the time being. Needs info from CM what you should use, ie. what they fixed with 0.57...

Sensor position is centered and the angle is not rotated! Finally, this was the reason why the Spawn 1.0 didnt work for me.

Bottom line: Sensor performance is decent, tracking feels direct but the 3310 performs better. No surprise there really. Again, 30 bucks vs. 60-70...you get what you pay for.

Buttons
You can even set the button latency via software. Default is 12ms, I reduced it to 8ms for fun. Sadly, my human brain can't notice the difference between those or 4ms. Sticking to 8ms for idk, just because I guess.

5mill clicks for the main buttons is OK I think. Again consider the price.

Wheel
Some noise when scrolling up, no sound when scrolling down. LED colors (except white) look bright and cool (even if they don't matter at all wink.gif. All steps are registered, none skipped. Its quite rough to scroll it, compareable to the Zowie wheels on the ZA, FK etc. I like it this way, others hate it. Its just the way it is.

Cable
Why talk about the cable you might ask? Well, because the one on the original Spawn/Xornet was beyond horrible. If you know the cable of the Aurora and believe thats the worst it can get, think Spawn V1.0. Blerg. Now, this one is improved but still not close to what I consider the best type of cable (Zowie ZA for example). My main issue with it is that I think its only 1.5m long and not 2m. Almost too short for my setup. Srsly CM, 30 bucks is cool, but plz next time make is 30,99 and include a standard cable length....

Shape
The most important thing nowadays and tbh, the first and maybe only reason you should consider before getting this mouse. The shape is unique. There simply is nothing like it. Nothing comes close to it. So if you have not used this shape before and want to try it out, be prepared to try and be like "errr...no!" and go for a refund. However, if you do like it its quite amazing and the reason why I will have some serious inner debate choosing between this, the Castor or the ZA13 later down the line wink.gif

Conclusion
Nothing to scoff at for 30 bucks. Now, I wished CM would do a Spawn V2 with the best clicks they can find and a 3310, 3366 and all the good stuff. One can dream wink.gif

two requests:
1. dpi measurements vs. ruler. given the malfunction speeds at 1000dpi, i strongly suspect that the lens is similar in magnification to that of the azio exo1's lens (which reduces dpi by ~15% compared to the actual lens)
2. can you post a mousetester "xCount vs Time" plot (or preferably log) of a medium speed (1-2m/s) swipe at 1000dpi, 1000hz?
anyone else want to help do these?

Anyone had any luck finding one of these in the UK? I've managed to control the mouse buying bug for a while, but this one looks exciting.

So is it out? Can't seem to find these on amazon or any where else.

We Americans get shafted this time.

Guess I'll just have wait until this comes out here. My Spawn Mouse1 button is starting to fail and was about to get a replacement off Amazon until I stumbled on the news that the Xornet 2 got released this week. I've order stuff off Amazon UK before. Maybe it will show up on there later this week? If shipping is fulfilled by Amazon should be no problem getting it here.
