Having artifacts on GA-G31M-ES2L over 295 FSB

Hi,

I have an E5300 in this mobo and I started OC-ing it. The chip runs quite well, however over 295Mhz FSB some flickering black-white squares/dots begin to appear on the screen. It's most likely an issue of the IGP, because these also appear when nothing else is OC-d but the FSB.

I dunno what the problem might be, because the board officially supports even 333Mhz CPU-s, without any OC-ig.

My BIOS settings are untouched except the PCI-E frequency which is fixed @100Mhz , the RAM which is set to 800Mhz (base freq) and ofc the FSB which is set to 295.

My config

CPU : Intel E5300
RAM: 2+1GB 800Mhz CL5
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L rev 2.0 with the latest BIOS (FL)
PSU: Chieftec 400W
OS: Win7

I use the onboard IGP, and have no dedicated VGA.

Any ideas ?

Two problems: the motherboard isn't good for overclocking (G31 chipset, Micro ATX, etc.), and your PSU is one of those PSUs that should be avoided if you want to overclock due to the quality of the power that it delivers (unstable and not accurate enough, which can only be seen by proper PSU testing equipment).

So, I think that's what's going on. Supporting 333 MHz CPUs doesn't mean that you can overclock to and above 333 MHz with a CPU that's lower than 333 MHz at stock.
