Upgrade plans 4xxx series or 6xxx series

So my brother has finally come up to move on from his 8150, I've been suggesting him a 4690k because he keeps insisting an i7 eventhough all he does is play 24/7. Now the question is, should I go with a 4690k build or the new 6000 series. If I go for the 4690k I can get him a z97 board and OC it without needing to buy a new RAM over the new Skylake that uses DDR4.

Please advise,

Worth going to 6600k IMO. Any RAM that you have from previous systems is probably on the slower side, so you'd have to stick with that or sell it to get ~2133c9 ddr3 / 3000c15 ddr4 anyway

I recently sold my ddr3 and it sells easily for almost full retail price

I never found myself needing my memory to go over 1600 or even 1866 tbh. I don't find getting into 2133 a big deal for what I do to day to day gaming, browsing, video editing.

It's not a huge deal but the ~3-10% FPS increases on some games that are not entirely GPU bound is quite nice, going from 1600c9 to 2133c10 or 2133c15 to 3000c15.

On older CPU's with worse IMC's the scaling was not nearly as good as it is with Haswell and Skylake.

Atm, he is runnning 1080p. Budget wise he doesn't care but I'm trying not to make him get an i7 coz he doesn't even overclock and I'm doing everything for him. Games: DOTA2, CS:GO, FC4, MSG Phantom Pain, BF4

for the only games that an i7 might worth there,on non CPU limited scenarios are just FC4 and BF4,

unless he is CPU bound, he will be fine with an i5
what video card will he use?
