Case Suggestions

I have the following components.
  1. Asus Rampage IV Extreme
  2. G Skill 32GB 2400 CL9
  3. 2x WD Black HDD 2TB 3.5"
  4. Enermax Maxrevo 1500w
  5. 2x MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G (will be moved from Cableton to the older build)
  6. Samsung 850 Pro 1TB 2.5"
  7. CPU cooler will probably be either the EK Predator 240 or the 360

The current case of this build is the Cosmos 2. but, the problem is that this case is not portable (it takes two guys to carry it loaded) and i want a more portable case.
I though about selling the Asus rampage IV extreme and getting the Gene but, it's not available. so i am going with a case that can house the current motherboard.

What cases do you recommend?

I am currently eyeing the Corsair Carbide Series® Air 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case
It looks nice and compact(ish) for an ATX case.
What do you guys think?

What do you guys think?

What it saves on height it makes up for in width, although that can still mean it would be easier to carry against your chest without obscuring your vision. Maybe try the Silverstone RV05? It has handles on top if you remove the grill that hides and protects the openings. Silverstone doesn't advertise them as such but I've seen a LTT vid where they stress-tested the handles on the FT05 (which is the heavier, thick aluminum version based on the same basic frame).

Still, maybe the problem isn't the case itself - why not just buy a roller luggage that might fit the Cosmos, or whatever case you might get instead? I use a PS07 (Prodigy was way larger but in hindsight the handles are really useful), but I stuff it into my carry-on roller bag. Problem is it's a relatively cheap one that wasn't designed for gadgets of any kind, so I lay down some clean towels before putting the case in. The thing is at the time I bought that bag it was an emergency,* so I just picked up the most decent looking matched pair of carry-on and check in bags for $50. Apart from the hard tubes having zero padding on the inside they held up well for three years so far.

As much as if it hadn't been an emergency I would have picked up the Tenba that can take cameras,** I assume all you'll really need it for is the computer, so I suggest getting any luggage that can fit the Cosmos and just carefully lay down a few towels; maybe even buy a few so you'd have more lying around. That said, it might be hard to find one to fit the Cosmos, so something smaller like the NZXT S340 would be a good option, but still get luggage to haul it around in. It has no handles and is actually too flat, so while there won't be moving parts or protrusions to damage with your hands (compared to the Noctis for example), it'll also be easier to get it into a carry-on roller bag.

*wheel popped off my old carry-on, accidentally ripped the back sleeve on my check-in, the damn day before my flight. Unfortunately Crumpler and Tenba had no stocks of the luggage I wanted at the store. Samsonite had one with a laptop compartment on the cover, but main compartment wasn't padded in any way.

**I also attend audio events so this way I'd have a bag with an interior like my camera bag, but my amplifier and headphones would actually fit without their packaging boxes for protection

I'm not sure that you understand how big that case is.

Anyway, I will check those two you have mentioned.

  1. Silverstone RV05
  2. NZXT S340

I used one before and my brother is still using a Cosmos II as a server (his gaming rig is in an RV03), and on top of that when the airlines started ripping people off with luggage restrictions to save fuel the first thing I realized was how my old check-in luggage alone (as in empty) would account for 60% to 75% of the weight allowance for a single bag (and they no longer combined the two-bag weight for one heavier bag). That older luggage I ripped could actually take the Cosmos in it, plus some towels on three sides.

In any case the reason why I'm saying a bag can help even if it makes things bigger is that it's ergonomically designed to be moved. I thought the PS07 would mean I can just haul it down, but I learned soon enough (thanks to a persistent cat that I didn't see with the case on my chest) that it's still better to just put it in my carry-on and then carry it with the handle at waist height.
