Whats better.. Palit gtx 570 1.28gb or msi gt 630 4gb

Thread Starter
Building a gaming/all rounder for my gf and have both of these cards at my disposal. Im unsure which card would be the better of the two for gaming though.

Better to have a big brute with 1.28gb of memory or a smaller 4gb card with no psu power connection to it?

The 570, 4GB on the 630 is useless, it doesnt have the power to use half of it.

I was sort of thinking that.. If i can sell a pc or two that i have been building up to sell on i might buy her rig a newer card. I used the 570 in my old dell while i was building up my rig and while the 570 ran gta v i was heavily limited on graphics due to the lack of memory on the card.

I bought a powercolor radeon r9 390 for my rig and tried it in the dell before my rig was ready and with its 8gb of memory i was able to run on very high or ultra settings at 1080p. Oddly though i cant seem to push beyond about 4.5gb worth of memory usage in gta v on thr 390, fps takes a major hit approaching the full 8gb of memory. Both on the dell and now on my built rig which has 32gb ram, a water cooled fx8350 and plenty of fans.

Well I don't have GTA5 but I would guess from what you're saying that increasing the graphics options that increase memory usage is what is causing the hit in FPS on your rig, not the memory usage itself.

Anyway the GT630 is the same architecture (Fermi) as the GTX570 just with much less CUDA cores and lower memory overall bandwidth. I doubt you could turn up options enough at playable FPS on a 630 to use over the 1.28 GB thats on the 570. It's most likely below the minimum requirements. The 570 is probably around a 750ti or 750 in pure performance at a rough guess.

you could sell both and sort of grab a used 7950/R9 280 they go pretty cheap and will be a nice performance boost from both the 570 and the 630

Yea was looking at used r9 280 or 290 cards. Could possibly pick one up if i sell a couple budget rigs im building up for a fair amount. One cheap and upgradeable with an asrock mobo which takes ddr2 or ddr3 so i stuffed 4g of ddr2 in it leaving the door open for buyer to upgrade to ddr3. Also throwing a phenom 2 dual core in so again up to buyer to upgrade. Also gives me something to put my old zotac 210 1gb fanless card into to get rid of that also. Basic case with a no frills corsair 120mm fan in front and a cooler master led 80mm in rear with a cit 500w psu.

Not sure what i will get for it but hopefully like £200+ with win 7 64 bit on it so buyer has option of like 16gb of ddr3 and dropping in a phenom quad or x6 etc along with a beefy graphics card. Next one i build up will be a better rig using a phenom 960t with hopefully the 5th core unlocked and some other goodies and maybe that gt 630 so should get more for that one once built up.

No point spending more on this particular one im building to sell. Lets me offload cheaper graphics card, mobo and some ddr2 ram. The case is ok but not a gaming case and not worth me putting any really good stuff into.

Also building up a half decent gaming rig to sell. Asus m5a78l-m, phenom 2 960t, cooler master cpu cooler, 4 or 8gb of corsair xms3 ddr3, 128gb ssd, 1tb hdd, that gt 630, cit 500w psu and some other goodies. Hopefully get a bit more for that one as its in a nice case too. Might get enough to picl up a decent graphics card for the gf's rig if i sell those two rigs. Have until xmas to finish hers so no huge rush.
