PC wakes up when there is power fluctuation

Thread Starter
I'm really not sure why but my PC, with an ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 mobo, turns itself on (from shutdown/sleep states) when there is power fluctuation on our power lines. Take note that the power supplied to the PC's PSU (Seasonic P-760 SS-760XP2) comes from a UPS (APC BR1500GI) that automatically acts as a voltage regulator when there is fluctuation. Since the UPS is a voltage regulator, I would assume that the voltage input to the PC is constant (tapped to the power lines when voltage is normal and tapped to the battery output when voltage is under/over normal). The BIOS of my mobo is also setup to stay powered off when AC power is loss.

Please help. Thanks.

power from ups its often not very good in quality, it may also have a usb connection thats waking the pc up to tell it there is a problem

Why wouldn't it be? I mean that's the main purpose of "voltage regulators" isn't? And I mean APC is a very reputable brand as well. Yes, it does have a USB connection to shutdown the PC when in battery power but I don't think there's an option to turn it on from an off state.

Why isn't it as good? well the power company delivers a nice sinusoidal AC power, and an ups is often fairly squarish, yours produces a "Stepped approximation to a sinewave"
Its good enough to get through a short power blip or to save your work and power down.

Normally usb activity is expected to wake up your pc, unless you go into bios and tell it not to. Check your manual to see what they recommend for configuration.

Oh ok, I understand. I reckon that the AC voltage from the UPS is really a square wave compared to the power line which is a true sine wave. I'm not sure if that's the reason why the computer would wake up though.

That's the thing. There is no USB power on in my BIOS. All it has is power on by pci, pcie, and rtc and those are all disabled.

Also, my keyboard and mouse can wake up my computer, if I allow them to, but only from a sleep state. They cannot do that when the computer is in a shutdown state.
