Santa, if you're listening, I want 34" 21:9 4K with Freesync, thanks...

I love my Samsung 34" ultra-wide, but damn, I wish it was 4K. I dream of the day when I can play GTA V on 34" screen while riding a unicorn into the sunset.

Seriously, I'm not sure why Samsung or LG hasn't made one yet,

Ahh, you're right, I'll have to wait for 5K at 5120 x 2160

maybe if you had a GCN1.2 card you could try VSR at 4k but it would look weird on the aspect ratio
post #5 of 12
I think you need DP 1.3 to do 5120*2160@60Hz.

The next resolution up would be a 40"-ish 21:9 at 3820 x 1600. But nobody makes one.

A 21:9 5120x2160 display does exist:

http://www.geek.com/news/forget-4k-lg-ships-a-105-inch-5k-tv-1600612/

Only costs $117K though tongue.gif

Anyway, I think we'll start to see monitors with this res once DP 1.3 hits.

Turns out DP1.2 just enough for 5120x2160@60Hz, something like 16.5Gbit/s while the maximum is 17.2Gbit/s. You can use this calculator to get the exact values for whatever resolution you want. http://web.archive.org/web/20150303100410/http://emsai.net/projects/widescreen/bandwidth/ In fact Samsung has a TV with that resolution and uses DP1.2. Look up QM105D.

How come 3440*1440 is limited to 110Hz (and we won't see monitors higher than 100Hz as a safe margin)?
