{Build Log} RVZ02 Heavy Impact Gaming Rig

I have been through many cases over the years because like most enthusiast we have a constant vision for the next build. I keep telling myself this next case will be the one i keep for 5 years but it never happens. I decided this time i want to keep it simple, to go with some compact and a little challenging that will maybe keep the itch at bay biggrin.gif

I loved the concept of the RVZ01 when it first came out + i love the styling and quality of SIiverstone cases so the RVZ02 was a natural fit. I will list the parts going in to this build i why i chose them.

Case: Silverstone RVZ02 - I've always had interest in going with a mini-itx build and based on my previous experience with Silverstone cases this was the best fit for me.

CPU: Intel 6700K - For the past 5 + years i have only used unlocked i7's in all my builds so this was the obvious chip to go to after my previous 4770K build. Yes i know you don't need an i7 for gaming but i do things besides gaming often so i would rather look at it then look for it =]

Mobo: Asus Maximus Impact Viii - I am a believer in once you go with a ROG board you never go back. This is the best mini-itx board as far`as feature set and OC potential so the choice was obvious.

GPU: Asus Matrix Platinum 980 - This is a carry over from my last build and i didn't feel the need to upgrade because its more then enough for 1440 gaming.

Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 2X8GB DDR4 3200MHz - I have used Crucial and Corsair memory in the past and i figured it was time to change it up again. I went with the fastest memory i could that's currently available.

SSD Primary: Intel 750 Series 400GB NVMe 2.5" - I have only used Intel SSD's over the past couple of years so this was a natural progression to the best they have to offer and can we safe future proof biggrin.gif

SSD Storage: Samsung EVO 500GB - I didn't need a TB as this will store just games as well as pics n vids here n there.

PSU: Silverstone SFX SX600-G Fully Modular - SIlverstone is the big name in SFX psu's and i went with the highest`rated one available since i don't see the new SFX-L 700 currently FS. I have enough experience to know 600 watts is more then enough for my needs so it was not a big deal.

CPU Cooler: Silverstone AR06 - I needed max compatibility with this mobo as far as daughter board and memory clearance, i also wanted to stick with Silverstone as much as possible in this build so it was a solid choice for me. I wont be doing anything crazy with overclocking so i don't foresee any over heating problems.

Media Drive: LG Super-Multi Slim Blu-Ray Burner - Yes people do still use these:D

I will keep any updates i have in the next post so the thread doesn't get cluttered. I hope this can help and inspire others looking to move on to a compact form factor but have there doubts thumb.gif

I had some time after the case arrived to test fit the 980 Matrix, I had to remove the case support in the left top corer which is recommended and needed when the card is this massive, besides that it fits nice n snug. I also tried installing the included gpu support bracket but the card is just to tall. There is a little give from side to side with the card but it will be mounted vertical so there shouldn't be any issues.

A few more things arrived. I am highly impressed with how small this psu is from Silverstone, its amazing how much power they can pack in such a small enclosure. If the SFX-L 700 watt was available i would have went that route butt this was the best option for me. I also ran in to a problem which which i was almost certain would become one beforehand. The 2.5" Intel 750 is not your standard 2.5" drive as it has a fat heat-sink on the rear of the SSD. It will not slide in to the supplied 2.5" brackets in the RVZ02 so my only option is to remove the bracket and use double sided Velcro. I didn't want to do something like this but i have no choice because there is no way i am giving up on that Speed Demon.

Silverstone CP10 connector, this makes life easier and provides a much cleaner connection for the media drive.

I actually returned the case and purchased a Lian Li PC-05S, i didn't like some of the clearance issues i was having in the case so i decided to move on.

I will put up another build thread.
